Or just maybe, just maybe, it is being put on Thursdays again because they finally got competitive with us instead of us kicking their *** the previous three years. People in other parts of the country couldn't give a **** about either one of us.

Both teams have improved, but they probably chose this year rather than next...

Otherwise, I guess they can put cameras in the Grove to show all of the fans watching the game out on their satellite TVs. They are so cool.

/I say "real" to differentiate newspapers/television from spirit/genespage/bleacher report.

Considering that they took it off Thanksgiving the year after Ole Miss went 10-3 and finished in the top 15, I'm not sure that's correct. But what do I know?

Or maybe because Texas and A&M don't play anymore when they held the Thursday night spot for years (at least the past 5). Bama and auburn for sure wont take it... Who else will? Until either of us earn a Friday or Saturday afternoon game (won't happen), Thursday night is the best either of us will do... And not because om is a "bigger name."

I have lived outside of the south and I can attest that "Ole Miss" definitely has more recognition than "Mississippi State" the problem though is that people generally think we are the same school, and only recognize "Ole Miss" for all the reasons that you would like them to forget. Your national recognition with the basic American is not something to brag about. Kindof like Marshall being excited that people know about them because of the plane crash.

The reason why they've picked the game up is because both teams are competitive and so it is bound to be a good matchup of two at least moderately skilled teams. Nobody wants to see two ****** teams (Ogre vs golf cart) or an obviously lopsided affair (Nutt vs golf cart or Mullen vs Nutt).

States most famous football player is Eric Moulds

OM has the grove, Oxford, Faulkner, and Shep

Every week some national publication prints an article our top 10 college town, top bar, top restaurant, most beautiful campus, most beautiful student body, top tailgating, top gameday atmosphere and that crap goes on an on an on.

Whether you agree with that stuff doesn't matter, national media believe it and are writing it. State's most famous alumni has a house in Oxford. You guys can't be so biased to think we are on the same playing field nationally just because some idiot from ESPN confuses the MS schools from time to time. Cash spending a night in jail is the most national news Starkville has ever received

No, to answer your question. People outside of MS have no clue about either of us and if they do they probably think we're the same school. It's not just ESPN.

If the rest of the country were as insane about college football as the South. To anyone outside the southeast, Willis is a 49er, Eli is a Giant, Wallace is that guy who plays for who now?, Oher was that guy from the movie who plays for Baltimore.

As it stands... you're crazy, sticking straight up, pink hair is showing. Just because you pay people to do Hotty Toddy on your Jumbotron doesn't mean all of Hollywood is wishing they could be at the prayer circle of champions in the grove.

When I go skiing every spring break since the blind side came out people come up and talk about how great the movie was, and I'm not wearing a Michael Oher jersey. When I go to NY, people talk to me about Eli, and I'm not wearing his Giants jersey. Everywhere I go, if Im wearing OM gear someone will either talk about our recruiting class or any of those other topics I listed earlier that make it in the NY Times, Huffington Post, WSJ etc.

If we can't have national recognition because we are from the south, then why are the most prestigious media outlets in the country drumming up how OM has some of the best tailgate, campus, party, college town, student body, etc. Is being talked about in a positive light by multiple national publications not the definition of national recognition? If not how do you measure national recognition?

Your logic basically says that if you are in the south, you can't have national recognition unless you're a national contender in college sports. So are you saying that State doesn't have more national recognition than say UAB? Troy? La Tech? I would say USM, but they have actually have a football grad that people have heard of.

And FTR every single hotty toddy celeb has some connection to OM, they aren't just paid actors.

OM and State fans will always have a hard time being objective towards one another but at least I'm using facts instead of made up theories

Pretty much dead on. I travel everywhere and this is pretty accurate. They call us mississippi bulldogs or they know ole miss but they confuse mascots and cities. People outside of the south dont really care about college like we do. It is all nfl. They really dont get it.

As was said earlier, Ole Miss might have a bit more name recognition outside Mississippi, but those people who know the name Ole Miss assume it's the same school as Mississippi State, and they don't recognize Ole Miss for the things you've mentioned (for the most part).

And, for college sports fans, Ole Miss has no more name recognition than Mississippi State. Both are seen as bottom-tier SEC schools. Neither one of us by ourselves is going to cause ESPN to move a game, or cause the casual sports fan to watch.

So because people in places you've gone are familiar with Ole Miss, this somehow proves that Mississippi State doesn't have the same level of national recognition? This is like wearing a USC shirt in NY, having someone yell at you about Mark Sanchez, and using it to "prove" that USC has more name recognition than UCLA.
