Brassell's back-OM Excitement: What am I missing?

As expected NB says he's going back to Oxford in December. Ole Miss fans are very giddy to say the least.

Here are his stats last year: (Defense) 14 tackles, 5 pbu, 0 int (Offense) 24 rec, 336 yrd, 2 td, 133 rushing yrd (Special Teams) 1 punt return td

I fully understand he is a special athlete but he hasnt done much on the football field to deserve all the hype. He wasnt even close to being the best freshman on offense or defense for them (Donte Moncrief and Sedarius Bryant). Jesus people, he's got more arrest in Oxford than he does interceptions and touchdowns combined. What am I missing on this and should I be worried about him making an impact next year?

Shhhhh. This is great news. The more bad apples the better. He'll be arrested soon after getting back.

He may not have been the "most productive" freshman on either side of the ball, but he was UNQUESTIONABLY the best freshman on the defensive side @ CB...

Brassell was an absolute lock down corner when he played on the defensive side, and he burned Alabama deep twice in a row on the offensive side. He's a deep threat that must be accounted for with world class speed. He is a very valuable player, and this is another big win for them... No need to minimize or marginalize that.

If things go how I see them going, we will both likely end up with borderline top 15 classes this year...

Yawn!

He's a deep threat that must be accounted for with world class speed.

After a 56 yrd run, he was tackled from behind by a linebacker from Kentucky.
I think it was #36. No angle involved.

Please don't give me that world class BS.

I'm sorry, if he's a cancer that one thing, but all the effort he did not put forth in the classroom he did on the football field last year he was crazy explosive, and a hell of a talent.

That dude your talking about is Winston guy who was initially recruited to run track at uk. Turned out, he was a better football player. Nick b is a stud and I wish we could get him. That being said, if Redmond ever gets cleared, I won't wont worry about nick on the offensive side of the ball as much

Link? I'm sure going both ways isn't at all tiring or anything**

Here he is burning the projected #9 overall draft pick in the first round of this year's draft, Dee Milliner... Milliner, btw, has world class speed and will likely be the first CB off the board in this year's draft. Guy has been beaten deep twice in the past two seasons, both times by Brassell(one got called back, if I remember correctly)...

Some of you are literally blinded into stupidity by your hatred for all things Ole Miss. Brassell is a 17'n stud that we wanted badly, and he easily could have been worth an additional win to us last year on special teams alone. Trying to marginalize him doesn't make that any less true.

that second video alone, "The Anatomy of a Punt Return" looks 100X times better and has more creativity of a video presentation than any thing we've done in the last 4 years. Can we just hire their whole video department?

Can't find the video, but I remeber the play

<center>Perhaps you can find the video, I haven't been able to do so,I just remember the play. World class speed does not get caught by linebackers in the open field.

Duly noted. Wasn't tryin' to crack on OM. Just knew he didn't seem to be too fond of going to class (according to both MSU & UM folks).

Ole Miss hit a home run with Micah Ginn. He does the "Season" videos for Ole Miss and does a fantastic job with them. He probably did this one as well.

Do you actually watch football? Brassell was easily their best FR last season. Yes, better than Moncrief. I'd kill for us to get him. He'll be an impact player for them. Anyone who won't admit that is 17ing stupid and letting their Mississippi hatred blind them.

You're probably right, he's terrible, which is why nobody wanted him out of HS and he certainly didn't play in any of those national all-star games, either.

There is definitely an angle on the play. Was caught by #21, not #36. #21 is, in fact, Winston Guy. Drafted in the 6th round by the Seahawks as a strong safety. Played both S spots in college, as well as CB, linebacker, special teams, and some kick returning.
Competed in the 100-meter dash, 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays and the long jump for the track and field team ... Won the state championship in the 100 and the 4x100 relay as a senior ...
So, he was the fastest highschool male in Kentucky in the 100 his senior year.

Needless to say, not your everyday linebacker, but a guy that also, coincidentally, has world class speed, particularly on the topend...

VR didn't say he was terrible.

Now to say that he is world class anything is a bit much.

Now go back to Nafoom and try to keep them awake.
Or from where you slithered out of.

Enjoy off week.

56 yards down field, angles are moot!

The guy was still a linebacker, and the run was 56 yds.
Brassell is a good player, I just don't fear his return.

Who was talking about fear? Was not mentioned until the previous two posts.

Big difference between fearing a guy and respecting his playmaking ability...

I get WMD and engie's points

But I watched every game of theirs last year. Did he show flashes? Absolutely. The reality is that his impact on games was minimal. I didn't see anything on the field that explains the raging hard on some people have for him. It kind if reminds me of "Autry 1 and done" talk from our side. Until any player performs on a consistent basis, I don't understand these love affairs based on recruiting rankings.

Why? Jiles is much better than redmond. I know that is hard to believe since he had no offers and redmond was a 4 star

Well, Im a bit torn. Other than the blatant misuse highlighted above, I'd say your post is spot on. I tell you what, I'm gonna let you off with a warning... Although you should note that I could easily fine you 200-300 Internet points for that.

I'd say Moncrief was better. Braswell was impressive b/c he was a close second operating off of mostly athletic ability without a lot of development. If Braswell had a good work ethic, you'd probably take him no question for the upside. On the otherhand Braswell was serviceable both ways, so maybe from that perspective he was better, especially on a thin team.

I watched him drop 4 balls last night at Scooba and struggle (stabbed at the ball) to make the only catch I saw him make. I was not impressed - at all. Perhaps he had a bad night or would better serve a team at CB, but he sucked at WR last night.

Snoop would start at MSU and definitely be on the field somewhere for Bama, even... if he could keep from getting "processed"....

If there was anyone on the field who "made an impact" it was Nick Brassell and Donte Moncrief. I understand what you are saying about recruiting rankings, but if this guy can stay in the classroom and out of the back of a cop car, then he is going to be a stud. If he wasn't, then nobody on here would be saying **** about him.

I applaud Freeze for knowing he's got to have talent.....

....took Croom a long time to realize this. He's assembling it anyway he can - transfers/JUCOs/dropouts/etc. Orgeron method if you will. If he shows he can actually develop players as well as assemble talent, he'll end up being a good coach. I wish we'd do the same with some transfers and such.

Why would Brassel play WR @ OM?

Brass was the best player at every 7on7, camp,pic-up bball game... dude was/is stud.

I agree that Brassel is a very explosive WR, but offense isn't exactly OM's problem. OM has an awful defense and very little depth on the O and D lines. This isn't fantasy football recruiting. OM only has 4 O and D linemen combined in their recruiting class thus far. Skill players look great on recruiting paper with their snazzy 40 times, but they simply don't win games. If OM wants to maximize their 1 or 2 years with Brassel, then he needs to never see the offensive side of the ball. They need to make him into shut down corner. OM has play makers on offense, adding another while neglecting the weakness of your team may make people excited, but has little effect on your ability to actually win football games. With this recruiting class, with the exception of possibly getting RN, how has OM addressed their biggest weaknesses?

Speaking of which, if we don't win the west this year, I sure hope we win the "team with the most 7 on 7 former stud rankings".

Seems like all the top teams win that one.

I guess Freeze sees a lost soul in the young man...

...our young wanderer will recieve spiritual redemption under the holy guidance of Rev. Freeze. Or the more common sense, reality-based explanation: Freeze is desperate for speed at the skill positions therefore, being the hypocrite he is, he could care less about the morals of a player as long as that player can help him reach a 8 win season.
