He's been with the organization, and he really has a good relationship with the players. I thought he got a raw deal with the Marlins, but I really thought he handled the Hanley Ramirez thing well. I would have rather had Eddie Perez, but Gonzalez is just as good. Big fan of this hire, especially since they did it so fast.

But the idea of hiring a guy the Marlins just fired is a little weird to me.<div>

The Marlins simply want to make money, and just so happen to luck out from time to time with their prospects being competitive.

Brought in a ton of players and dumped them off at the end of the season. They didn't donut soly through their farm system like teams like the Rays and Twins

I'm hearing that he may be too much like Bobby, in regards to showing too much loyalty to underperforming players and in late-game management. But I don't think he'll have the leeway to screw up that Bobby had, so it shouldn't be as much of a problem in the long run.

What'll be interesting is how Bobby leaving, after clearly calling most of the shots in the GMs office, affects personnel decisions. Sounds like TP is already being shown the door, and that's a positive sign not just for that position, but for the direction of the GM office in general.

This offseason shouldn't be hard: find a heavy hitting LF. That's it. They can try to trade KK and McClouth, but since they're on the last years of their contracts, they're probably best off just playing thru them.

Edit to add: Freddi Gonzolez was pretty good as a 3B coach. Way better than the current guy, Snitker.
