When Vizcaino and Beachy return, Delgado is a long reliever at best. Not that big of a loss.

Vizcainomost likely comes backas a reliever. When Beachy comes back (2014), Hanson and maybe Hudson will be gone. Delgado would be a solid #4 making the minimum for the next 3 years. no way in hell he's a long reliever or not a big loss.

FYI, twitter is now suggesting this trade may be a hoax.

6 years vs 3 months. Let that sink in.

Delgado was ATL's 3rd best prospect and he was going to be under team control until he was 28, making roughly ~500k/year. He could easily/obviously develop into a solid starter between now and 2018.

It's not mortgaging the future, per se, but Atlanta is sure as **** doubling down on this year. This ain't as bad as Texeira, but the Cubs got a great deal.

If not then they'll at least receive a supplemental pick. I just hope they don't resign and then he converts back to his 4+ERA.

i don't know why, guess it's a new change from the new CBA, but that's what's being reported.

it all depends on how the organization thought of Delgado - the Braves have traded many a highly thought of pitching prospect that never amounted to much of anything in the major long term.

Personally I'm not sure Delgado is anything more than a SP4/5 and b/c he doesn't have stellar control he's going to have a lot of 5-6 inning outings.

But they better make sure and get into the playoffs this year to make this worth doing.

I am cautiously liking this deal right now. I will not be too pleased if Wren sits back and doesn't make a single move to improve the ballclub for the stretch run. The thing is, the Braves "have faith" in the future of like 8 starting pitchers, and you have to get rid of one of them for that improvement this year. The NL pennant is very winnable this year, and the Braves have the bullpen and the veterans in the field to make a special run. Their starting rotation has the 3rd-worst ERA in the NL this year - tell me the last time the Braves have had to worry about that.

For now, I like the deal. If it included Mike Minor instead of Delgado I would really like it.
