end up giving him the $60 mil that was reported?

seems they're throwing good money after bad since they got burned/could'nt land Burnett/Peavy/Furcal. desperate?

i hope Lowe is able to regain his form. just dont think $60 mil is appropriate.

I'm happier signing Lowe for 3 years than Burnett for 5. Lowe is solid .. he has one of the TOP reliability scores for any starter in the past 4 years. Burnett's reliability score is almost negative.

No opinion on the Japan guy.

Well I think this is better than the alternative which was have an unproven Kawakami ( and I mean against MLB hitters) at the 3, and piece together 4 and 5 with Campillo, Jo Jo Reyes, Charlie Morton, or an injured Tom Glavine. Having Lowe at the 2 puts less pressure on a young Jurrjens, gives Kawakami the chance to not have as much pressure coming to the MLB at the 4 spot against relatively spotty competition from other clubs number 4 guy, and now we have multiple options for the 5 spot. Glad Wren went out and got Lowe, although I do think we paid a little too much for his services. But definately glad we got a fairly solid number 2 starter.

With as insane as Tommy Hanson pitched in the Arizona Winter League, I would be surprised if he isnt up by the all star break. He was the MVP of the whole league and had a microscopic ERA. That kid is gonna be very good for us in the future.

It was either gonna be Jo Jo or Charlie Morton but the consensus had Jo Jo with the more potential upside.

Starter, big time. He has great starting stuff. He was like 9 and 1 with 1.30 ERA in the Arizona Fall League. He was absolutely nasty. With Huddy getting older, Hanson, Jurrjens, Lowe, Huddy when he gets healthy and Vazquez could be the next few years for us at starting pitcher. Thats pretty stout....

won the Sawamura- Japan's Cy Young- a couple of years ago.

The trend for Japanese players in general is that they start out well, and then tail off. I think a lot of that is because it's a new league, better overall players, a slightly longer season, and a new culture all playing together. The key is going to be can he adjust by August.

I agree. He's supposed to be pretty decent, but hes a little older, and I dont know if he can adjust to the MLB. Good thing is that he isnt coming in here as our ace or even close to it. With us getting Lowe today I put Kawakami behind Lowe, Vazquez, and Jurrjens. If he goes up against other number 4 starters, he could end up getting us good wins at the back end of our rotation that weve been missing for a few years now.

doesn't matter who we sign to start, our outfield and at bats are miserable. the only player we have that can swing a stick consistently is brian mc. he the only all-star the braves have right now. i like the lowe deal and i think he will be a well needed addition, but we need an outfield, first baseman, and a third baseman to back chipper up (we all know he will spend up to a month on the dl). we could also use a middle infield. we just need everything. spend some money, get some descent guys, and i don't mean from the minors. im tired of being out of the race in the end of june-beginning of july.
