Might as well have won the east tonight. The Nats are done. 14.5 game lead and winning streak of 12.

It looks very good for Atlanta...

and the Nats look like they are done, but there are still 47 games left to play. A few week losing/winning streak could put them right back in the race. As a Braves fan, I'm not claiming the east until it's won.

Hilarious. Under Choke (sports) on Wikipedia in the baseball section the first paragraph is
The University of Mississippi (aka "Ole Miss Rebels") baseball team has gone 0-6 in NCAA Super Regional games at home after winning the first game in three different best-of-three series. [1] During the 2012 NCAA baseball regionals, the Rebels were 2-0 and one win from advancing to the Super Regionals, but lost two straight games to TCU and failed to advance. In reference to the University of Mississippi baseball team's 41-year absence from the College World Series, OMAHA has also been coined an acronym for "Ole Miss At Home Again".
Also, the largest lead ever blown in MLB was when the Yankees came from 14.5 games behind the Red Sox in 1978 to win the division.

Whoa there fella, not so fast ...

Might as well have won the east tonight.

Remember that the game is baseball. Look back at teams that won 12 in row. They also usually have a losing streak in a 162 game season.

Google 'baseball season collapse' and you can find plenty of examples to teams tanking ... when they only needed just to play average ball.

Less than two years ago, look what happened to the Red Sox ...

After leading the Tampa Bay Rays by nine games in the AL wild card race on September 3—when their odds of reaching the playoffs peaked at 99.6%—the Red Sox lost 18 of their final 24 games. On the last day of the season, September 28, 2011, a Boston bottom of the 9th blown save loss against the Baltimore Orioles coupled with an extra inning come from behind Tampa Bay Rays victory made the Rays the American League Wild Card winners, eliminating Boston from playoff contention.</SPAN></SPAN>

That same year, the braves needed to win 1 of their last 5 games against the marlins and phillies (after getting swept by the Nats, i think) to force a playin game and failed to do that. The Cardinals, instead, won the wild card spot and went on to win the World Series.

Any Braves fan who claims the east is theirs in early August hasn't watched them much over the years... The braves can fall apart when it counts with the best of them.

The year we collapsed was on fredi for wearing out our bullpen completely. Fredi has learned from that mistake. Notice the first game of the series with Nats that Jordan closed in place of CK. This year's team is completely different. It's over!

The Nats have 7 games left with the braves. If they win them all, they'd be down 7.5 games. 14.5 game lead with only 7 games left against the leader is a huge lead.

... Atlanta scored 7 runs total across those last 5 games. Can Fredi swing a bat? That doesn't sound like it had anything to do with the bullpen to me.

Last game against Philly who blew the lead? The bullpen mainly CK. Anyway I'm not arguing with you. I'll take the braves and give you the field (nl east). How much you wanna bet? Didnt think so. It's over

I'm not betting anything, nor am I saying the braves aren't winning... But it's a long time until October and collapses have happened. I'm not hanging a banner until its won.

Yeah I know you're right, but my braves sure have me feeling wooly this morning. Need a win tonight to break the Nats back. Also need medlen to have a good start for his confidence
