I don’t see him hesitating if he’s open.
He’s entirely useless when not hitting threes
I thought he would be a warrior on both ends. 6 7 sturdy. I’d like to see Mark tell him get 20 and 7 and foul out next game. If they take the 3 put it on the floor and get in the lane.
The dude really has trouble finding open looks. Defenses have learned to keep him smothered on the perimeter and he’s not athletic enough to create his own shot.
I don't understand why he gets extended minutes when he isn't making shots.
There is a reason all of these dudes are 23 and still playing in college
There's a reason he couldn't start at Dayton.
And coming from schools they came from.
They can't smother you if they're caught up in screens. Brea can be setting screens as well as his teammates setting them.
Brea useless unless he learns to drive to the basket against the smaller guys

Everyone says Brea can't play D. Well, neither can the rest of the team!

So many people thought that getting Brea from the portal was the answer and the missing piece to push this roster over the edge. They claimed that he was the instant offense, the bucket-getter, and the playmaker we failed so many times before him to get. There were reasons why almost every team that were his finalists dropped out of the race for his services. They also knew he was limited and one-dimensional. Don't get me wrong, the kid is a pure shooter and nobody can take that away from him, but there's also a reason why he isn't even starting on this team. I think people's expectations of Brea were way too high. Is Brea a world-beater? No. Can he be a great role player that can occasionally make it rain? Yes.
22 minutes and made a single shot. Noah made as many and had the same number of rebounds in 12 minutes. No excuse for it.
This ^^ Brea can not create his own shot, we really do not have anyone on the team that can do that.
I’m 58 and have as many moves going towards the basketball as Brea .. he’s a one trick pony .. the three . Period .
If Brea could just add a floater to his game he would be so much more valuable
Brea is what he is. He would be most effective if he had teammates around him that can penetrate and finish in the paint, thus forcing help defense to decide to help in the paint or stay on Brea at the 3 point line. Unfortunately this squad is generally lacking in this regard, so it’s more of an usual circumstance when Brea finds himself open, rather than us putting pressure on the defense to make a choice, Given the right personnel and skill sets surrounding him, Brea would be a huge problem for opposing defenses.
Gonna show my here but the most unathletic guy who just killed you in college was Steve Alford. IU ran so much action/screens to get him a look because he was a great shooter. Wish UK would try to run more screens/action for Brea.
Could be why Duke and UConn took commitments from other players, they picked up on his flaws while evaluating him
I'm one of those whose expectations were higher for him. Now, I'm used to him not showing up in most games. He just isn't what we hoped he would be when we signed him. He'll have the occasional hot game but defenses are finding it easy to stop him.
Why can’t Pope figure out how to get him shots like Vandy was able to Edwards open in the first half?
We need to make a concerted effort to get him shots when he is on the court.
Started off as a favorite of mine , dude was so on fire , seems like he didn’t miss his first month as a Wildcat , now he seems to have quit working as hard to get shots . And his defense is nonexistent. Doesn’t like any physicality at all . He’s tied with Jax for the softest player on a fragile team .
And the crazy part is that if he actually worked on his D, he lands on an NBA roster. I can’t imagine not putting in the work.
Yep, good memory. Alford was one of the best ever at figuring out how to get open looks despite being really slow, short and constantly double covered. Dude was like a perpetual motion machine running off those screens.
But nobody today screens away from the ball as much as those old IU teams did. And I doubt Brea has the stamina for that level of constant movement even if they did.
Referring and coaching games I have seen probably few thousand players. After Steph Curry made 3 point shooting cool…you will see 2/3 of them taking 3s from everywhere from 5 grade all the way to high schools and college. Doesn’t matter if the shot is good, if he is a good shooter, if a teammate is open . Also does not matter that he cannot shoot the FT or make a simple layup with each hand consistently…..
Brea is also one of these kids that want to be like S. Curry …. Difference is he never developed other skills: dribbling, shooting around the basket, scoring in various ways….. he is limited so is not going to S. Curry.
When I was coaching , I always telling my players, you will need 2 reliables moves to score to start with. Then for each of them you need to develop 2 counters. That will give you 6 ways to score not counting FT ( they are called free for a reason)….
Do you know how many FT Brea took so far? 71 !! . Think about this he took 71 FT….and guess what …. those are numbers for his entire college career….. 71 FT!!!! That’s it 71 !!!
In comparison he took about 624 3s…. Yes he made 275 of them so about 44%…. But think about that in 4 and half years of college only took 71 FT….. at Kentucky in 18 games he had 10 FT. For comparison Butler took 71 FT as well but those are only at Kentucky….
So if you except Brea to be something else than what he already is …. Ain’t happening !

That would require being able to get to the rim, can he do that? The guy is allergic to contact and defenders. If someone breathes on him, he passes the ball.
Yea. Alford’s conditioning had to excellent. The moving screens would be called but Pope needs to figure out how to get this guy shots.
When you take 624 3s and only 71 FT over your college career that tells me you are one trick pony and you didn’t develop other ways to score or contribute to your team success. Also tells me you don’t like contact and you always going to be a special team sub.
