First off, you didn't mention what some of those orange countries' statuses are (for example: the highly developed and affluent UAE, shaded in orange, publicly flogs for adultery, alcohol consumption, etc)
Secondly (regarding yellow on that map), most readers of this forum would consider it pretty damn barbaric for countries to allow child marriage, discrimination against women's testimony in family court, or allowing a rapist to walk free if he marries his victim (this is even allowed in "cosmopolitan" Tunisia, for example, which is actually shaded green on that map).
A little flogging never hurt anyone; in fact I'm pretty sure it's still the law here in SC or was atleast until recently that I can take my wife (should I have one someday) down to the courthouse Sunday morning and beat her with stick if need be. No it's not equivalent, yes that is tongue in cheek.
I said earlier that severity of implementation varied where implemented, so I don't see how I was being misleading. The purpose of the map is not to be exact, it is to refute earlier blanket statements that were made that don't hold up to scrutiny.
