Yes LIppard is no longer the coach here and I have just been hearing rumors, but if they are true Brevard people should be happy.

Mark Bumgarner is the word I have been hearing he is the person everyone wanted in the first place and runs the old Robenson/Essenburg system. Of course these are just rumors so they may not be 100% accurate. Also a few other assistant coaches are leaving and taking new jobs at other schools so there are several holes to fill and some of the players are looking at going elsewhere so I don't know if they are going to stick around now or what.

The last four years have been a nightmare so maybe we can get something going.

That would make a lot of sense based on what I am hearing. You might not be off mark on this one traveler.

Are you talking about Pursley or Chappell? I know Chappell is from Transylvania County and is close with Essenberg because he hired Dan on his staff at East Henderson when he wanted to come out of retirement, but Pursley just recently coached at Brevard College. I also saw Essenberg this season is an old Brevard Football jacket. Could it be?

Lippard just walked into a bad situation. Essenberg built Brevard by bringing consistency and a tough mentality that fit with the blue collar nature of the town prior to Ecusta closing. The numbers of the program are still fine but that blue collar identity, much like Canton is, has long left the town when the manufacturing left.

I would say that it would not be a bad idea to look at options available in Haywood county.......Don't know if any of those options are workable..........just a thought!!

Chappell i could see but dont see him leaving Pisgah. He is an Essenberg guy tho. As far as Essenberg i think he likes helping out but i dont see him wanting to be head coach again. I would like to see them go with a brevard guy maybe the Walker kid who went to Carolina i heard he was interested last time. Young guy with alot of knowledge. Mark B. would do pretty good to just dont know what kind of motivator he is and the will need some of that from what ive seen.

That mentality was there long before Essenburg came along-he didn't create that atmosphere-he continued what was already in place from his days as an assistant

Times have been tough in Brevard the last (4) years. No one will argue that point and right now I am not sure if anyone has the correct answer. But you do not shut down a program that has won state titles and had the overall sucess that they have had over the years. Lets not forget that up until a couple of years ago, Brevard was ranked in the top 10 for most wins in state history. They will right the ship, they just need to get the right coach for the personnel that they have.

I don't think it will really matter what coach is hired. Brevard just doesn't seem to have the stable of athletes and talent that use to be there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Most teams in WNC have the same type of kids. Outside of Asheville, Roberson, Erwin and Reynolds - Brevard might come the closest. I know they did 20-30 years ago.

Winning football is an attitude.
If you don't have it, it wont matter who gets on the field. It is a 365 days a year thing too!

The problem is the wrong system has been used the last few years. We some good size but instead of using it to our advantage we tried to outrun everyone which has never really worked for us outside of a few seasons here and there. In 05 we got up behind the line and basically said stop us if you can, we mixed in passes but nothing fancy, no screens, no elaborate routes just basic ones to give some variety. That's the way it has to be done here we don't have outstanding speed we might have one or two that can run but not enough to run an Oregon type offense.

But you have a heckuva QB right now. You had at least one decent receiver in JV and the right side of your JV o-line was bigger than any 3 of our d-line put together. Maybe some sort of West coast, short passing game would work with your present talent.

If your looking for a formula to win a lot of games w kids who arent div one prospects but are good kids ..good players and who work hard ..look no farther than Franklin. .they have averaged nearly 10 wins a year for 13 yrs and have had one division one signee...but theyve had continuity on there staff and they buy into the system in place. The days of brevard having better atgletes than everyone on there schedule may BE gone.. they do have. A tradition of winning but better be careful because losing can become a habit..ask smoky mt!!

I guess we will see, and hopefully our defense can get an overhaul as well. They tried to be too complex with it and the players didn't get the calls or formations until the other team had snapped the ball.

I certainly believe that based on what we saw on the field-poor fundamentals at best.

Why's that? I'd much rather try and rebuild in the WNCAC than in the SMC or WHC. Much tougher conferences, classification aside.

I'm going to go one step further, winning football is a culture. If you create the right culture, the attitude will follow.

I think East Henderson could have had the most talent of any team in the WNCAC this year, but the culture has completely fell apart since Chappell left.

I actually think it would be more accurate to say that Chapell left BECAUSE the culture changed. With the alleged rape case and the drug bust of the head of the youth program, the culture was pretty much busted as far as integrity goes.

Sadly staying 2a or going 1a isn't up to the school. This year I think we dropped below 700 kids so that would put us 1a territory.

There's always been a rouge culture in East Flat Rock. I think he left because he got tired of trying to change it.

Accoding to Chapell he left because Pisgah had better fan support and he wanted to coach in the Tuscola, Pisgah game.

Pisgah.....porter................Pisgah has long been known across the state for great fan support, blue collar hard working kids, and a great community to raise a family.............Add to that the supportive administration and staff and it makes for a fun place to teach/coach

Brevard will have 1A numbers by next realignment. When i went to school there we had around 270 kids in every grade now there around 180 and dropping ive heard next years freshman class be around 150 so Brevard will be well south of 700 kids next realignment.

Going 1a w the right coach and rt staff id guarantee 8 wins a yr and 3rd round of state playoffs...w a chance to win multiple state titles...sure rosman has beat them twice..we all know that want continue..year In and yr out swain and murphy will be solid and robbinsville decent ..but year in year out w the rt staff brevard would compete for conference titles and deep playoff runs....look no father than franklin. .they win 10 a yr w basically no d 1 prospects..it can be done w a good staff and a good system

Does anyone have an idea when the search begins and the interview process starts? Having the right person on board in early January is going to be key to any strides forward next year! I would think the powers to be want to make that happen.
