My read is that keeping it low key, keeping media out, keeping the focus is more of the same of keeping their heads in the right space heading into the tournament.

I looked for another thread first. Must have missed.
I like it. SIAP getting called in 2021 after a 30 yr drought and even the back-to-back repeat last year were major accomplishments and worth the hype and celebration. Now Pike is correctly sending the message that we expect to be called on Selection Sunday, winning games and making a run in the NCAA Tournament are the focus.
Of course Brian has to try to manufacture a hot take or a lame exclusive. And he really needs to break out of the lazy mode that young sports writers are falling into these days - injecting too many metrics into your stories to fill column inches.
Not sure where you’re coming from here. Fonseca is an outstanding beat writer.
Media doesn't need to see the team presenting him with his new phone during their watch party.
He gets the new phone if they win the tournament. Them's the rules.
Outstanding? I wouldn’t go that far at all. We will need to agree to disagree on this one. There really isn’t remarkable or new about his coverage angles and his constant injection of metrics into stories is incredibly boring. But I recognize that’s how stories are written now.
Really? You must not read many of my posts. I’m probably one of the least negative posters here. I call them like I see them and Fonseca is average at best.
That is VERY out of character for Pete. He does tend to run on the rather positive side and be pretty well grounded (imo)
In that case, my bad and I apologize. Maybe thought it was someone else. I do think Fonseca does a good job though.
That’s cool. I don’t hate the writer or anything. I just think he injects too many metrics/stats into stories. Similar to one of the baseball writers on the Washington Post.
