Rutgers could use a douche like Kelly as Head Coach. It's time to win. Doing it the Schiano way gets us no where.

Two different things. Anyone can fire whomever they want to fire. If they want to hire, they have to jump through several hoops to get approval to hire. Hiring a very expensive head football coach while paying a $18M buyout is going to go over real well with the engineering and med school professors looking to hire post docs and others for conducting funded research that is actually MAKING money for the university.

For this reason, Zinn has to be praying that we somehow look a bit better against USC. There are multiple reasons why it would be better and cleaner to wait until after this season ends. But if we keep getting embarrassed that won’t be possible.
Football is the chief revenue driver for athletics. I’m sure the bottom line will look better if donations, sponsorships and other revenue drops because they didn’t move on from Greg. This is being penny wise and pound foolish. They stand to lose more in the long term by doing nothing.

Fire, sure. Play with interim coach. Don't rush to hire new HC.
No HC is coming midsession to coach a team they didn’t put together.
If someone is named before the season is over they will assemble a staff, do some HS recruiting & prep for the portal.

If GS is fired, fans need to be patient on timing of hire. There is no great hurry to have someone in place right away.
If he’s fired. Can’t imagine anyone would be hired until at least a week after our season end. Roughly 1st second week of December at the earliest.
Do people not watch CFB, I can’t even think of a mid season hiring where a coach took over the current team.
Large majority of coaches after being hired don’t even take over for bowl games either. At most is they’ll be in the sidelines of their new team but not involved. Some exceptions are Brian Kelly (Cincy) and Sonny Dykes (SMU) for the bowl game but that’s very unusual.
The mid season firing has more to do with getting your own house in order and lining things up to go out and look for a coach. That’s all easier and cleaner to do without a sitting head coach.

I would guess that before the season ends the AD would have a good idea of who they wanted and through third parties have gauged their interest in interviewing
Absolutely. Like I said in another post don’t fire without a plan. And part of the plan is knowing who the hire is going to be. Reach out and confirm they are willing and able to sign the contract when presented.
I think usually there's something in the offset language around any subsequent jobs they take having to pay market rate salary, or at least within reason for the general going rate for the job, to avoid an extreme version of that scenario. However, in Kelly's case I think he could take a job, even as a P4 HC, that pays significantly less than what he made at LSU and still fall within that "reasonable" realm.
Unless they go with someone that is currently not coaching like Brian Kelly as some want. I think the guy checked out at LSU and won't be good here. But that's a different convo.
Very different conversation and very low probability. Even if it is someone that is not currently employed. Someone would not be “hired” prior to end of season.
Several schools have done it recently including VT last year with Franklin. It's also a way to drum up more funds if the fan base is excited to get behind the new coach. That said, I don't see them going that route either. Just wondering which G5/FCS hot shot it will be.
I could envision an unlikely scenario of the interim coach turning the season around and maybe he is hired, but that seems unlikely. Do I need to say again that this is unlikely? It's possible. But unlikely. Unlikely. There.
Maybe I should remember this... what other coach candidates were considered during the last hiring process? Had any been a head coach with an impressive record? I'm guessing not.

Jason Candle-was discussed here, he just started as UConn HC. Doubt he would leave there.
