New defensive scheme was as bad as it gets. Players were playing hard, but for crying out loud, that's not a premium O-Line they were playing against and I don't think there was one sack. The long pass and running game stops were ok, but that short passing game just crushed them all night. I just can't see them doing any better next week on the road. Nebraska's offense should have hung near 60 on Arky St.

I'm fine with the offense. Defense was brutal. Diaco better work REALLY hard this week.

I'm not going to over react to this. Plenty of teams **** the bed early on in the season. Next up, Oregon

When I envision 3-4, I dont think of this. Wtf was with our OLBs? No mans land! And they werent coverin anyone anyway!
Wisconsin does the 3-4 the proper way. And no one give me any talent ********, when there are teams that do it well with a bunch of 2 and 3* nobodys.

Diaco's honeymoon is officially over.

How can you not have grave concerns?

Callahan had Southern Miss, along with so 60 and 70 point melt-downs. Pelini had South Dakota St. and McNeese St., and some 60-70 point melt-downs. Riley has Arkansas State (along with Purdue and Illinois) and a 60 point melt-down. What is different?

Offense sputtered in the 4th when they should have put the game out of reach. Sorry, but Arky St. defense is just ok, Nebraska really should have had two more scores. Maybe both sides come to life a bit more next week, Nebraska will certainly need every ounce of offense it can get against the Ducks.

I really liked the offense. The oline made some nice holes and Tre is a stud. Lee played as advertised until the 4th quarter where he looked tight. Still, he has all the tools and we have a pretty salty receiving corps.

Defense was bad. But we won't play these gimmicky dink and dunk teams in the Big 10. We are built for the Big 10. Will we be great on D? No. Was tonight an anomaly? To some degree yes.

I was fine with the offense until the playcalling in the middle to late portions of the fourth quarter...unacceptable when you have the lead.

Hear you. But about 97 % of the criticism is on Diaco tonight. Crazy stubborn.

What is concerning most to me is that we were again out coached and by a non power 5 team, simply should not happen. How were these defensive problems not seen in camp I just do not get how we can be so abused by a team that had an umpaloopa as a running back

I agree but the offensive coaches have to realize that the defense is a work in progress and struggling. Maybe just maybe they can ice the game by controlling the ball and shortening the game to secure a victory.
This. Langsdorf is creative. For all the guff about run the ball he is pretty balanced. The thing Langsdorf has never had is an understanding of the situation. He just keeps running the same stuff regardless of score or regardless of whether or not our defense is doing well.

It's a little like Lane Kiffin a few years back at Alabama. In a couple of games Saban blew a gasket b/c Kiffin wouldn't just pound the ball and get out with a win.

Yep. Offense got too conservative in the 4th. Acted like the game was over. NO sense of urgency for offense late. A score salts the game away. Instead stall at the 40.

Now overall I was VERY pleased with the offense. Just have to sink in the dagger when you have a defense who is bending AND breaking.

They didn't get conservative...they kept throwing the ball all over the field when they could have called some simple running plays to keep the clock running. I am not advocating that they throw deep passing and keep lighting up the scoreboard in this situation...KEEP THE CLOCK RUNNING and increase your odds of winning the game!!!

It'll probably take 50 points next week to get the W. I think we're capable but who knows. We'll know a hell of a lot more about this team next Sunday.

Maybe they finally learned their lesson in this game. Let's hope so.

When I talk about simple running plays...Nebraska can still spread out the defense by formation which would prevent ASU from loading the box and give Bryant/Wilbon running lanes to use their elusiveness to their advantage while keeping the clock moving. Mix in some safe screen passes etc...and methodically control the ball down the field while the clock keeps ticking away.
