I think Greg is the Marty Schottenheimer of college coaches.
He would have us a consistent 8 win team, with the lightning in a bottle 11 win season once every 5-6 years and a rebuilding stinker of 4-5 win years every 5-6 years.
The lack of discipline off the field would be eliminated. Recruiting would be Top 30ish every year. And he would drive away every quality Coordinator that he convinced to work for him in the first place.
At this point, sign me up.
As a fanbase, I think we need to come to 2 stark realizations. Unless there is a monumental shift in attitude toward athletics among the leadership at the university and state levels, there will always be too much negative momentum to be serious conference and play-off participant contenders. All the "Sleeping Giant" stuff is white noise without consistent, unified philosophical and financial support. Second, nearly every stakeholder in the process doesn't have the stomach (rightfully so in my view) to become a consistent Top 20 program. There is way too much unsavory business to consistently achieve that status, for nearly everyone that surrounds our program. For every a person who said, "these are events aren't that serious" there were 10x who wanted nothing to do with it. That is probably a good thing, but makes competing with OSU, FSU, 'Bama, USC, et al nearly impossible.
