That 1999 Open was one of the toughest environments I've ever seen. The Van De Velde collapse was epic. The 18th was possibly the toughest hole in major history that day. If I remember correctly Tiger shot an 82 in the final round.

74. Tiger shot 81 at Muirfield in the 3rd round in 02 that derailed any grand slam hopes that year.

Super tough course for sure. As baked out as it is, if the wind picks up it’s going to be near impossible to do what you want. Smartest golfer who goes out and hits punch shots and runners will win. Stupid golfers who keep trying to drop darts on the pin and bomb drivers will go home early.

It’s been called just The Open now for quite some time. Not sure why. I always thought the British Open was fine.

It's much better than US Open. Has way better golfers. Look how much further below par their final scores are.

Yeah, not sure "American bomb and gouge" is going to work in those conditions.

Probably a Euro who can work the ball wins.

It’s not only Americans, Rory, Jason Day, Adam Scott, same thing. This course will favor guys with every shot. Older players too. Someone out of the blue like Stewart Cink could contend.

It’s been called just The Open now for quite some time. Not sure why. I always thought the British Open was fine.
They wanted the name to be elite, not just another countries open. They also believe it's the most prestigious tourney because it's the oldest.

There's some indication that a lot of these guys may blow driver over the trouble, the equipment and power of the players may have caught up with old school courses like this. We'll see.

I took Fleetwood and Molinari in my fantasy pool. Wouldn’t be shocked if either of them are holding the claret jug on Sunday.

Molinari is my pick. Guy looked all world a few weeks ago winning Tiger's event and has played very well in Europe this year. Arguably playing the best of anyone right now.

A player...Rose
B player...Casey
C player...Leishman
D player...Hadley

The way the golf pools I get in is all four of your players have to make the cut or you are eliminated.
If all four make the cut, then is combined lowest scores.

[eyeroll] He's playing a major. Tiger probably does more w/ kids than anyone on Tour.

He might do a lot with kids recently, but historically, he has ignored everyone while he's on the course. Other players don't do that. Arnold Palmer never did that, major or no.

I am completely convinced that the "new and improved, kinder, gentler Tiger" is nothing but a PR stunt to repair his tarnished image.

Watching the Van De Velde special on NBC Sports app now...

I'm already cringing and he hasn't actually hit his tee shot yet...
