I'm here to fight all brooks slander. He helped get Kentucky back in this game, got hacked on the rebound that led to the arky three, and got held on the push off. Obviously you would prefer someone else shooting that three but he was wide open and he has a good stroke. I'd take him over Wheeler shooting that. What lost us the game is Oscar and Wheeler shooting and bricking 15 footer after 15 footer. Time for everyone to appreciate that we have an uber athletic 4 who can stroke the mid range and is the only other player willing to help Oscar rebound.

The problem is he was open because Arkansas left him open. Any time you’re taking the shot the defense wants you to take, it’s not a good shot.

I agree with that, but go back and watch that set before he takes the 3. No movement. No effort to drive and no effort to get Grady even a lick of space.

Well I don’t know who to blame for that. The other players, the coaches, someone. They couldn’t have drawn that up in the huddle. We came out of a full timeout and that’s the shot we got.

Honestly, I won't blame Brooks.

The elbow call happens all the time. They called it. Lame.

The three, while not ideal, was wide open. Not saying he shouldn't take it, but nobody else could even get a three off (Tyty and Grady both had them blocked).
the ref was waiting to call that elbow, so either it had been happening all game, he was prepped for it by Arkansas coaches or it was a payback call for an earlier mistake, but by itself that call doesn't normally get called in that situation.

He’s a 25% 3 point shooter……not who I want taking a 3 at the end of a game, there’s a reason he was open

Yeah we should have got Grady a wide open 3 instead why didn’t we do that?
Because Wheeler didn't throw him the ball. He was coming of a designed screen from Oscar and was going to get a good look. Wheeler just fell for the bait and threw it to the guy that Arkansas purposely laid off of hoping he or Wheeler would shoot it instead.

Just frustrating, basically two players for them against our army. And still can't get it done. Part of the game plan should have been going at those two early and often to draw fouls. Pinson alone almost done us in. Amazing we can't trap and get the ball out of guys like that hands and make somebody else beat us.

Look Brooks had some killer negative plays but so did others . We can’t have Mintz Toppin and Grady be no shows.
Did Cal have Toppin guarding Notae? Sure looked like it - bad match up there.

Brooks gets stripped of the ball way to much - he gets a tough rebound and gets stripped that leads to a three - he lets a beautiful pass go through his hands for a set play dunk - he clearly pushed off on our legendary 4 man outside arm up in the air inbounds play. The open 3 I’m not crushed about because he’s a good jump shooter and he can make that shot occasionally- wasn’t my first pick but I swear I’d rather he shoot it than TyTy- Wheeler - Oscar only Grady would I want to shoot it. TyTy jumper is flat broke got yo get him going again

OK so ur arguing Oscar shooting costs us the game more than Brooks multiple late game miscues?

For starters the Hog was draped all over KB on that inbounds play. That was a foul, KB was basically trying to free an arm from the shackles the Arkansas player had put him in.
Watch the damn replay if you dont believe me. Then the Hog has the audacity to flop as KB is attempting to free himself from aforementioned shackles.
But God knows Doug “Blows” would never make that foul call in Bud “Cheatum” Arena, but he will call the necessary push off.
Shows Sucks.

Didnt look flat broke on that 15 foot baseliner or the 3 that ended the game.

We have a very good team with alot of potential
but we are going to be behind in games and we're going to have games where late game execution in the final minutes will determine our fortunes in the tournament.

If Brooks isn't coached to a level where he understands his role and accepts it, then we aren't going to go far. Its an Achilles heel to this team.

Notice I said coaching, and not blaming Brooks. NO way should Brooks have had any understanding or belief he had a green light to shoot a 3 in that situation AFTER a time out.
Brooks has an extremely LONG leash and that’s the main problem. The mistakes he made today are inexcusable for a junior, almost senior. Like @kyjeff1 said, the dude flat out doesn’t understand game situation, time and score. He has a very low basketball IQ. He absolutely cannot be in the game at crunch time. He’s a liability.

The stone hands on a designed play alley oop and the elbow to the face (could have easily been called flagrant), were major miscues.
Yep. People keep saying that was a bad call and it’s never called. Brooks literally nailed the dude up around the head with a frustration elbow. Gotta be smarter than that, whether he was held beforehand or not.

I’m not gonna be too hard on brooks. he was bad down the stretch. but man…our guards were sad today.

i feel like grady’s inconsistency is at least partially on Cal though. Cal so bad wants this to be the ty ty washington show in the back court and grady is relegated to just sitting on the wing and waiting for the ball.

and yeah grady had some turnovers against lsu but he also adjusted in the 2nd half and showed he could get to the rim and finish when they crowded him. Only time all year Cal has let him do that though. he did it for 4 years at davidson. he capable. it doesn’t have to be all washington.

if and when we lose in the s16 or E8 or w/e in the tournament im telling you it’s gonna be a game where grady goes like 3-4 and washington goes 3-14.

I agree 100% on Cal wanting it to be the TyTy show in the backcourt. Most of the shots TyTy put up today should’ve been to Grady, without a doubt. Three shots by the best 3 point shooter in the SEC just cannot happen. Ever.

Blame, Blame, Blame,
You know you are a big fat loser when all you do is blame.
Get all ur excuses ready and play the blame game. That's what losers do!!!
Let's not take in the account that Grady, Mintz and Tyty shot 4 out of 17, that is less than 25% so if Keion wide open shooting a 3 is 25% then the odds would be better.
Keion has got to be stronger with ball. No question
Just a regular season game at the hottest team in America on their home floor.
Lost by 2.
I'm with our team.
Make adjustments!
Move on!!
Go Cats!

When the SEC Tournament starts the best UK fans will be there and follow them home!!

The critical mistake of the game was Wheeler throwing the ball away when we were up 70-69. We could have iced the game right there.

He lost the ball after a rebound which led to an Arky 3, he lost the inbounds play by pushing off, he let an alley-oop go thru his hands, he missed several wide open shots. Unfortunately, they are all game-impacting plays.
Yeah those were the two plays that really hurt. I think UK was up 2 when he got stripped they hit that 3. And the blown alley oop was inexplicable.

Bingo. Coaching. Muss is a good one. Very likely told his guys to let it go to KB.

Which Brooks play impressed you the most yesterday? Was it the ill advised 3P in the final minutes with plenty of time on the shot clock? The key rebound he let an Arkansas player take away from him that lead to a 3 point basket by them? Maybe the perfect lob play that he let go right through his hands? Or was it the push off on the out of bounds play that he had no reason to have to push off? I’ll hang up and listen.

Brooks was 7-13 for 14 points and 5 boards. This wasn't a terrible game from him. Ty Ty, Wheeler, and Grady we're much worse than him today..

Brooks is taking it pretty hard on this board and I get it he made a lot of mistakes down the stretch .

Outside of Oscar the entire team pretty much was inconsistent yesterday . Hell Brooks might have been our 2nd best player yesterday which is saying something .

Not sure why the OP gets to keep doing this. He was once put on a timeout for admitting that "he likes getting people here in an uproar" and that it's "too easy". Notice how he posted this, let it take off like wildfire and then didn't say another word in the thread.

He only starts threads within minutes after a loss and is NEVER here to celebrate a win.

Then again, as a Vandy fan I can see why he's bored to tears and needs a UK loss to feel alive.

@chattanoogawildcat remembers it.

It’s not about the numbers that Brooks puts up, which are usually really good. He has good numbers more times than not. The issue is his lack of basketball IQ/court awareness. The mistakes he makes at the most crucial times possible, which magnifies them. They stick out like a sore thumb.

Brooks makes losing plays down the stretch, is the best way I can describe it. On the flip, guys like Oscar make winning plays consistently. Brooks always has a couple wtf moments, nearly every game. Especially in our losses. I will add that Wheeler is in the same boat with Brooks.

If we could somehow clean those silly mistakes up, we would be almost unbeatable. It’s honestly the one weakness that prevents us from taking that next step. JMO.
