BROWN LEAVING MC

If anything I'm surprised it's happened in Chicago and to MC twice now.

Most of the high school hoops prep schools don't get the Chicago kids. Think the same is largely true of the major wrestling prep schools. There's no need to leave the state when bball and wrestling within the state are strong enough to compete at national level. Perhaps this is a level check for IL high school football on a national scale?

It is inevitable others will follow from IL. Just have to wonder who will be plucked next. Spring Football, ESPN, Florida weather, graduate early, not go to a real school. Its inevitable.
Wait a minute, do they have any age limits? Because, if not I'm in!

I don't think so, they get kids from everywhere including FL.

Some people have stated the draw is the national stage and going against top flight competition in practice. Can't say I would know what it feels like to be recruited among these elite athletes, but I don't understand the jump up in competition if you haven't dominated where you were at.

What would draw me for sure is the weather. FFS look outside right now. If I could be in FL I would be.

And that is also a danger for the big 10 schools losing top recruits to schools in the south where the weather is better (SEC). For awhile there it seemed like the Big10 was going to be the power 5 doormat conference (and my assumption was a possible trend of top Midwest recruits heading south?) but things have seemingly turned around the past few years with Urban Meyer and Harbaugh coming into the conference. I think most people would say the big10 this year was the best conference top to bottom in the nation.

I may have been the cause of Edgy flushing the thread on Antoniou. Made a mistake on a post I made. Sorry Edgy.

Aaron Antoniou who played the last two years at Hinsdale Central and recently transferred to Montini has also announced he will be transferring to IMG. Not sure if he even would have been eligible at Montini but heck of a player and another loss for Illinois HS Football.

How does IMG pay for this? It has to cost a family a lot of money to do this. It's a shame MC put a lot into this kid and he leaves. How does he relate to his present teammates? What does he say to them?

The pay for it on the back of the D3 kids with rich parents who think they can pay their way to a scholarship to Alabama.

MC140,

If you mean D3 Baseball or Softball yes. Football is a completely different story at IMG. The BIG money tuition is coming from Golf and Tennis followed by Baseball just shy of $80k per year but take a look at Golf and Tennis tuition.

I've been on campus at IMG and it's a beautiful place. Contrary to posts on this thread they also have AP classes in Calculus, various Social Studies, and Languages inclusive of Latin and Chinese. One of the baseball players from Naz left after his freshmen year and has been at IMG since, he's earned a 36p on his ACT and my guess is he will enroll at an IVY league, Stanford, MIT, or Duke. He hosted one of my sons on a visit while we were on vacation a couple of years ago purely to spend some time together.

IMG has very deep pockets and sponsorships from nearly every major sports brand it each business line. They can scholarship every athlete on campus if they like and it would not effect their bottom line.

Somewhat interesting fact about IMG, it is owned by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, LLC, a Beverly HIlls talent and entertainment conglomerate (aka WME-IMG). The Co-Ceo of IMG is Ari Emanuel the brother of the Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel.

That'll sting some but MC will replace him with a solid backup and they will still contend for the CCL Blue - very wide open in Blue next year - no clear cut favorite

Losing Verdis will hurt. MC will plug another player in there that I'm sure will be a good, but a 6'5 300lbs linemen who plays both ways and has speed and footwork like he does for his size doesn't come around very often. It upsets me for selfish reasons, we're losing a 4/5 star player. I was asked if my son was offered this opportunity would I take it? My answer would be no. Yes I would look into it, but I want to be there for my son during his high school years, I want him to have a normal high school/teenage experience. I don't want miss his games, they are 16/17 years old, you worry about your kids enough when they are at home during high school, having them living in Florida would be too much at this point in their lives. If my son was that good, with 30 plus D1 offers, I would be perfectly fine having him coached by Lenti and MC's staff then by the staff at which ever College he chooses.

As a kid I can't understand not wanting the regular high school experience.

Talent and entertainment? Sounds like "get em" early and build some relationships with them,.... then fast forward 4 or 5 years and for the ones "that make it" and "need an agent" they can trust and are familiar with... then hey remember us? We can help with your transition to pros and contracts etc.

invest and risk a little upfront in free ride to IMG high school and then capture 10percent of multi million pro contracts 5 years down the road on at least a few of the kids that get free rides for a couple years of high school. InterestIng (if my hypothesis is accurate)

Many of these kids are 4 and 5 star kids. I would assume that the expectation of the athlete and his family is that their is a better than average chance that the kid will have an opportunity, post college, to go to the NFL. They likely further feel that IMG will improve their chances in that regard. (whether it does or not is beside the point)

What they are probably not considering is that joining a P5 college football program is a job that in season is 6 hours a day plus game day plus classes, plus studying.

The last chance that they will have to have to undergo a normal hs experience ends once they go to IMG. Playing P5 football is not a normal college experience, it is a job where the boss and the fans have high expectations that the kid succeeds.

For what it is worth my opinion is that a hs athlete has plenty of time to enter the world of big time college football, let the kid be a kid until reality hits the first time he goes to a college practice.

Couldn't agree more.

However - I now see where some of the benefits might come into play for IMG in their benevolent generosity of handing out free tuition for a select few "students".

The only benefit would be for a student who is have grade issues. IMG does not enhance the college experience considering each University is different. I am sure most if not all the kids will look back and think, why did I make the move.

There is absolutely no one at their home games. Maybe a couple of hundred people. That's almost equivalent to little league
I hear you. But for example I considered Illinois Math and Science Academy for a brief second and it being outside of the norm was one of the attractions. Their poor sports was a weight on the opposite side of the scale. So, I can see the top notch sports, different experience, and being in FL being alluring to a kid in IL. (but not for a Raider for any that might be reading... That place sucks if youre a Raider)

So others are leaving MC as well. Every private school has attrition due to financial situation of parents, grades, more playing time elsewhere, etc. MC will be fine as long as Thomas is at QB (granted if I was his dad I'd be pretty hesitant about chancing his either full ride to a top flight D1 program or his draft status).

This is division one athletics. No one is enrolling early because they want to get their masters paid for after 5.5 years. It is about starting as a frosh and getting to the NFL in 3 seasons.

On that note, I will profess to no opinion on the matter specific to this link, but it does make me think - if they can come up with an arrangement that lets the students in the article have their diploma in December, why can't similar arrangements be made for student athletes with a scholarship and early enrollment opportunities?

So much racism at that school in Mt Greenwood. I think it's time for both sides to come together and set aside any differences. A school like Marist should encourage all their students to be strong, proud and brave! Strong, proud and brave like those who inhabited this land years ago! These people - fighting their oppressors for over 400 years! It is time to invoke their name as inspiration for all Marist students.
I give you ....
the Marist Redskins!
