established a command post to intake, develop and analyze leads, and run them to ground. We activated the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team, to provide critical geolocation capabilities. As a result, early this morning, FBI Boston’s Safe Streets Task Force, with assistance from the
@USMarshalsHQ
& the
@Coventry_RI_PD
, detained a person of interest in a hotel room in Coventry, RI, based off a lead by the
@ProvidenceRIPD
. We have deployed local and national resources to process and reconstruct the shooting scene - providing HQ and Lab elements on scene. We set up a digital media intake portal to ingest images and video from the public related to this incident. And the FBI’s victim specialists are fully integrating with our partners to provide resources to victims and survivors of this horrific violence. This FBI will continue an all out 24/7 campaign until justice is fully served. Thanks to the men and women of the FBI and our partners for their continued teamwork. Please continue praying for the victims and their families - as well as all those at Brown University.

#BREAKING: At this time, law enforcement says the person of interest, Benjamin Warren Erickson, who was previously detained, who they thought was in the connection to the Brown University shooting, has been released after investigators determined he was not involved. The gunman remains at large.

Why didn't the shooter shoot the guy if this is a random attack? He's just spraying bullets around. Why didn't he shoot the guy?" "The president of the university, I mean, everybody's talking about these websites being taken down, and she has no idea, right afterwards in the aftermath, immediately, she had no idea what the class was! How is she, the leader of the school, so unaware about the basics of this case?! It's just frustrating?"

BREAKING: BROWN UNIVERSITY SHOOTING SUSPECT RENTED CAR LINKED TO MIT PROFESSOR'S MURDER Developing twist in the Dec. 13 Brown University massacre: Local and federal investigators have identified a person of interest and are tracking down a rented vehicle believed to be tied to the shooting. No name dropped yet, and no suspects publicly announced in either the Providence rampage or the Dec. 15 slaying of MIT nuclear engineering prof Nuno F. Gomes Loureiro in his Brookline pad. The rented car matches the make and model of a vehicle spotted near the MIT killing, raising new questions about a possible connection between the two crimes.
