anybody know why brownlee is a walk-on? i recently heard that his scholarship was cut at the end of the season last year in order for cohen to bring in pitching. brownlee was healthy at the time so injurywasnt the cause.it just seems odd because i remember reading articles and newpapers of cohen stating that brownlee is one of the best defensive outfielders in the sec, possibly the nation. wouldnt you want someone like that on a scholarship to guarantee that he will stay in the program?

Seems like I remember someone talking about when Cohen got here, baseball players weren't getting help finding other scholarships. You only have 11.7 scholarships to go around. If there is a way for someone to have everything payed for and not take up part of the 11.7 I imagine they would try to do that.

interesting to find out who actually has a "baseball" scholarship this year. I think we would all be surprised.

there is a 35 man roster so 8 guys are finding help elsewhere. They get called "walk ons" but they are just the 8 guys that you can find money elsewhere for. Gene needs to stop calling them walk ons. That's like calling all the guys that were on TOPS for LSU walk ons.

about parents of players finding money on their own through the university.

We may not have hope or tops, but with a 35 man roster cap, we can put a dent in that deficit with some dilligence.

This was one of my biggest beefs about Polk. With baseball, you can find aid, but you have to be a little more creative to get it for your players.

LSU has TOPS, but that just means that they can be less creative about how they get aid as opposed to us to an extent. Most of our players are good students and many can get academic schoalrships, many of the Mississippians should qualify for MTAG.

Instead of bitching, Polk should have been looking for money for our players. Had he gotten TOPS abolished, he probably would have royally screwed over baseball players nationally in the process.

I'm optomistic that the new NCAA Pres from LSU will help college baseball as far as academic aid, but we'll see. I'm not totally getting my hopes up either.
