I think about 25 or so years ago the 5A state baseball final was delayed for a couple of weeks because Pascagoula filed a lawsuit over something. Can't remember the details though.

...if I recall correctly. I seem to recall Hattiesburg was involved in it somehow too...

Tupelo was involved as well. They were actually getting on the bus to go to Jackson and were told not to go. The entire State Championship was cancelled.

1. Bruce beats Hamilton in game one, throwing the pitcher in question. 17 innings/week rule not broken yet.

2. Bruce beats Hamilton in game two, winning the series 2-0, but breaks the innings/week rule with the same pitcher.

3. Instead of calling a forfeit to game two, and forcing a game three, the MHSAA just gives Hamilton the series win, despite not winning a game in the series.

Did I get that right?

Hamilton beat Bruce in Game 1 on Thursday, the game the pitcher did not pitch. The series was tied at 1-1, and the Bruce had to forfeit Game 3 due to using the pitcher more than 17 innings.

I'm having trouble reading these threads thanks to the special meaning the number 17 has in the SPS lexicon.

It kept being delayed and finally after 2-3 weeks they cancelled it. And I do remember the controversy being over the Pascagoula-Hattiesburg semi-final series. Couldn't remember who the North team affected was though.</p>

Back then the top 2 North and the top 2 South teams went to Jackson for a double elimination tourney with 1 vs 2 starting the tourney. So there were 4 teams that got screwed out of a chance of playing.

when they pitched this kid 17 2/3 in a span of 5 days...and on back-to-back days on day 4 and day 5....hell, if it was in 2 appearances instead of 3, I could almost understand

Let's say he averages 15 pitches per inning- which is being conservative...thats 105 pitches on Monday...105 pitches on Friday...and another 50+ on Saturday

Thats what the 17'ing rule was put in place to do- stop **** like that
