if this is accurate and of any concern for you and might it somewhat explain the aggressive nature of your recruiting efforts this year? Of course they won't all stay since some willbe asked to leave for newcomers but I was wondering if this is normal or do you guys have an unbalanced situation at the current time?

I counted 57 true freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the Bears roster. Three of those true freshmen are no longer with the team, Patterson, Cotton, and Rodney Scott. It is my understanding that there are 32 juniors on the team, based on information I have been given, which means (assuming they all stay for the 2012 season) they will have 32 seniorsPLUS the 8 jucos they will have this year. That means a class of 40 people will leave their roster after 2012. That is a 47 percent loss in one season from your roster total (out of 85 scholarships). However, I cannot know or assume that all of the 32 are in fact scholarship players, but still when anywhere between one third and almost half of your team will leave the squad due to expiration of playing time, that spells DOOM!!!!!!!!

You've missed on some players...I'm not going to look them all up, but right off the top of my head...Eastland and Grimes are gone. And as you said, you really don't know who is and isn't on scholarship.

The size of the 2010 senior class, in terms of scholarship players was small (only 14 scholarship players). The size of the 2011 senior class will be even smaller (only 9 players I count).

The size of the 2012 senior class looks to be a good size even given some future attrition I'm sure, and the size of the 2013 class (freshmen this past year) looks to be good too.

I count about 21 that will be juniors on scholarship this fall give or take. Add 8 Jucos, and that takes it to 29, which is why I've been optimistic about 2012. We'll have a large senior class, and it will be followed by a large junior class. I count 23 that will be on track to be seniors in 2013, plus any Jucos we add in the 2012 signing class. It's 24 if you count Brunetti, who will either be a senior in 2013 or 2014.

Those are good numbers, and I feel like those classes both have the type of numbers we need in terms of quality SEC players as well. I count around 9 freshmen that redshirted last year, making them on track for the 2014 senior class. We'll add some true freshmen from this 2011 class to that group as well, which should get us closer to the 20 number I would guess for the 2014 class.

That's again, why I feel like with the way we've been bringing in players and the fact that our numbers will be getting back to a healthy range, we're on track to have a chance to have some good teams by 2012, 2013, and 2014. Having less than 25 combined juniors and seniors on scholarship does not make for a good team, especially when you experience some injuries. When you have at least 40, that's a healthy number for juniors and seniors.
