Devil is in the details, but if my interpretation is correct and we are seriously going to fund 34 full scholarships for baseball, that’s a great outcome for the program. Much bigger deal than the $250k of revenue share to split 34 ways. That $250k of revenue does no good if you still have guys paying for school.

I don’t think very many of our peers in the ACC are going to have the cash to fully fund all 34. It was basically already confirmed during the UVA coaching search that they’re planning on 25 for baseball instead of the full 34. May not seem like a huge difference, but depth is important and no kid is going to choose to pay their own way at UVA over having a free ride at UNC.

Will be fascinating to see how the various baseball programs handle this, and also whether other schools are as transparent about this as UNC.

That's huge news! 34 free rides and a little money to boot.

It seems to me that UVa and Carolina--each with a different decision about funding baseball--are clearly signaling their intent to go separate ways in conference realignment.

Probably no schools will be as transparent as UNC. That is okay with me that we are transparent-the big kicker is getting a Shortstop a legit NIL deal-I have faith we will try hard at this also!!

This puts us in the top 10. Of course we need to be given the talent level we have had for the last 20some years.

You mean Schaffner? Just curious as to why you would single him out. I would hope that all of our starters at least would get NIL deals.

I hope that we’re funding all 34 scholarships, but has that actually been said anywhere?

Here’s what it says in the linked article at the top of this thread:

UNC chancellor Lee Roberts told Inside Carolina’s Greg Barnes that UNC intends to fully fund the now-735 total scholarship pool as part of the school’s mission to stay as competitive as possible. Roberts spoke about the House Settlement implications for North Carolina athletics moving forward.”

Baseball’s max of 34 is a portion of that overall max of 735.

I still wonder if we are funding 100% of those 735 this year, or whether it will be a phased approach over 2-3 years. For example, I could see us funding 27 full baseball scholarships this year, which was the number of partial scholarships available in previous years, then maybe 30 next year and 34 the following year. That would give us some extra time to raise the money needed to fully fund the huge increase,

Bubba said on the Carolina Insider podcast that all 34 scholarships would be funded this year.
Huge news if true. This reporting from IC was the closest thing I had seen to any type of confirmation about funding all 34, and even this was indirect (focusing on the 735 and not the 34).

Virginia's the 1B to UNC's 1A in the future conference realignment stuff, and who knows which path they'll choose between SEC or B1G, but they will 100% have their choice as to which one they end up in.

Also, can share that UVA is fully funding 29 baseball scholarships for Pollard's first year, and apparently the promise is that moving forward they will have funding "available" for up to 34 "if needed." The way that I understand it is that if there is a situation or a year in which Chris Pollard wants all 34 roster athletes to be on full rides, he's got the commitment from the VAF and the baseball donor group that it will happen.
