Jackson is about as bad as it is going to get as long as the State Capital is there. If it ever moves then I would agree. I just can see J Town getting any worse. It's at the bottom now except for a few places in North Jackson. South Jackson and West Jackson is gone and will never return. East Jackson (Pearl) well you saw what happen the other day. 50 plusyears and 5 trillion dollars on proverty andthis is what we get.</p>

tax to put more money in the coffers so people can sit on their *** with a better quality of life in J-Town. It's coming and when it does you will see businesses flee<div>and the tax base will evaporate leading to a death spiral which is not to be confused with a "death nail".</div>

the voters don't give a damn about improving the city. Look at who they repeatedly elect to city council and other local offices. It is a sad situation where they continue to elect morons to run the city and then ***** about the city itself.

There are so many problems in Jackson and it would take a large sum of money, which is not available, and some top notch leadership, which they will not vote into office, to put it back on the right track.

I hate it because I grew up there and actually like Jackson but I just don't see it going but one direction and that is bad to worse.

Drive up Bailey Avenuefrom Woodrow Wilson then take aleft any left. You will see grown me sitting on the porch drinking beer anytime of the day. You willsee you men walking up the street with a Pit Bull on a chain dragging a concrete Block. Park and sit forfive minutes and watch the drug dealers or even a few women approach you. This goes on all day in West Jackson, South Jackson and parts of North Jackson. Theincometaxbase is gone. The city is relyingon sale tax from the commutersbuying lunch while at work in Jackson. It is dead and the ony sign of life is the down town area which becomes dead after five. I use to be a Debit insurance agent working Jackson. I have been all around it and see all of it and it is bad and I just can't imagine it getting any worse unless the state goverment moves which I don't see that happening.

I agree and unfortunately Jackson has gone the way of many major cities. High Taxes, High crime and crappy schoolshas driven everyone away except certain areas of North Jackson. All you have left are the ones who can't afford move or just don't give a damn. My wifes father has 15 rental houses in South Jackson and you would not believe the crap he has to go through. It is sad. When I was a little boy I lived on All State Drive in the Colonial Heights area. I drove down to my old house to see what it was like. I was sadly disappointed.

he would be the best candidate the city has had in a long time.

If you don't know Jonathan, you should meet him. Awesome guy that had to take over his family's business when his father passed.

I hope he decides to run.

although many of us have given up on Jackson it is still going to be a part of our lives in some way. A good candidate for mayor of Jackson would actually be a benefit to the whole state.

I was in this area recently. Its just like that.

I was also in Little Rock, AR recently. That is a really nice capital city. While MS and AR are a lot alike, Little Rock is light years better than Jackson. The difference was shocking.

Now I didn't go tour Little Rock's slums. But downtown Little Rock is awesome and vibrant day and night. And they have a nice arena - imagine that.

it will give people a reason to come downtown, a reason for restaurants to stay open, a reason for new restaurants to open. The worst thing ever done was losing the baseball stadium.

Tear down the damn coliseum and start anew and serve beer. It's that simple.

what Jackson could be with the right leadership. I think Jackson and Little Rock were very similar places 30 years ago but have headed in very<div>different directions. Money goes where it is well treated and right now Jackson is moving toward a socialism/welfare state model and capital (money) is not</div><div>interested in that environment.</div>

I saw a billboard in Little Rock for Blue Man Group coming to their arena. I said to myself, "son of a *****". That would not happen in Jackson today.

There is absolutely no excuse for Jackson not being at least as good as Little Rock. None. The lazy bickering asshats that run Jackson aren't educated enough to look around and see what's possible. God bless Ben Allen - he has sure as hell tried.

He mentions bringing "economic justice" Any time I hear a candidate mention that, it makes me cringe. It kills me how it is popular now to vilify success.

about for 100 years. A nice lake in Downtown Jackson would do wonders for the image of the city and possibly bring investors back.

when Jxn was trying to get one off the ground. 2 very interesting points he made:

1. You really don't want any sort of team playing there. Said its a loser.
2. They were worried b/c Alltel only has 200 parking spots. They soon found out that if people want to go, they will figure out parking. And it made local businesses a bunch of money b/c they opened there lots up for pay. In other words, no parking isn't an excuse for not having an arena.

Exactly.

BTE, Jackson city council people were saying years ago that Rankin & Madison couldn't thrive without a healthy Jackson. The attitude was they weren't too worried as if Rankin & Madison being next door was some kind of self-sustaining life support. Yeah, Flowood is still laughing at that comment.

You are 100% correct. Hard work is being villified. You can bust *** to get ahead, but they want to take it to give to some idiot sitting on a porch refusing to work.

You will find another Lumumba telling every certain commenters to "put their sheet back on" and you will also find his niece from another state defending him.

This Minority contractor **** is costing Jackson big time. The minorities DON'T do the work, they just line their pockets. They get the contracts because they are a minority, then get qualified people to actually do the work. They'll get bids from contractors, then tack on 25-30% to that. They don't do a thing except bleed the system and get rich. I know this for a fact

There was even an HBO special called Bangin' in Little Rock talking about the gang violence. Downtown after sunset was absolutely dead because you could get hit by a stray bullet. A dead man was found on a person's porch. I could go on and on. Alltel decided to build the arena, an investor bought the empty buildings on the river and started a farmer's market by day to get people coming downtown, then little by little it became what it is today. See also Oklahoma City revival, B'ham, etc. Jackson will never do what needs to be done to revitalize the town. Sad because so many people would root for it.
