Supposedly the headliner Neon trees has cancelled on the show. Not exactly upset over the news, but I have no idea as to why either.

It's a shame

That they cannot ever get one good band at this, to headline. The people that make up music makers are terrible at handling their task.

I agree that this year's lineup is pretty bad, but last year they killed it with the Avett Brothers. One of the best shows I've ever been to.

Maybe they've read all the negative publicity regarding them being named and pulled out. One thing Mississippi will never accept is a male singer wearing heart shaped glasses and tight red leather pants.

Hope we were smart enough to work out the contract where they have to give us interest. Not good business to pull out 2 weeks before.

Yeah

I'm not a big fan of pop/bluegrass so to say. Give me Bill Monroe over that any day of the week. That's Bluegrass. I understand many enjoyed it, though.

with the over whelming amount of good music out there today, you would think (especially a group of college students) whoever is in charge could get a band that everyone would enjoy. Its really not that hard.

Never seen so many people complain about a free concert. I may not always like the bands, but I have never had a bad time. I guess you are the same folks that complain how the team looks even though we are undefeated.

Do you know how much money they spend on these things? I think taxpayers, alumni, etc... have the right to at least voice their opinion. It's one of Starkville's major attractions, why not make it as good as it could/should be? Music Makers used to get big time acts to come to Starkville decades ago. But over the last several years, they've overpaid for one hit wonders and has beens.

At this point

they need to get somebody good everyone will like. Jack Johnson killed it SBW a few years ago, he's always a good show. If I had to guess, they will fill in with a dubstep dj

You can't seriously belive it would be easy to find and book a band that is liked by all of the relatively diverse group of 35K+ college students, alumni, townies, and randoms.

I may not like who they get but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the one to listen to every Tom, Dick, and Harry ***** about the bands I chose.

Tried out for music makers last year learned they go after big name bands who usually turn them down for bigger venues...It is ran by a bunch of jackasses who have no idea what they are doing.

Don't we have this conversation every year?

I used to ***** about the shittyness of the headliners at Bulldog Bash. I gave up a few years ago. Is it what it is. I don't understand it but that's the way it is.

Bitter?

Not a little bitter are you? I guarantee you they know more about it than you ever will.
It is very tough to get a good act to Starkville, it is not exactly on the regular tour routing.
It is third for fourth tier market, on top of that, when you have one set date you need a band, you pay double or triple price to get them there.

It is not like they usually just happen to have crew, a tour bus and everything else they need and driving through Starkville on the one day of year you need them. So the price for even crappier smaller bands is higher than it should be.

WHo knows why the cancelled, but they are a hot act right now whether you like them or not. Most hot college acts do not consist of anyone playing a guitar anymore, is weird to me, but that is the truth.

Screw it

Go get Riff Raff. I'm sure he's available and fairly cheap. At least he'll bring Andy Milonakis

Not in the least, once I learned what they did at met some of the members I backed up of that **** quick. And yea I'm sure a bunch of hipster psychology major cocksuckers know everything there is to know about planning a concert...if anything you seem a little butt hurt that I called out their incompetence, were you a MM?

I'm surprised we made it this far. I always lived in the district and had too many people at my house to leave and even see the bands that SA put on stage. So to me, it was more about what band could being the most people into town. Now, I will give it to music makers for getting some good bands in the spring. I remember Blues Traveler, Moe, The Whalers, Gin Blossoms, OAR, Amos Lee, Panic (before they were banned these shows were money)

In the olden days, State hosted Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Hall&Oates,

and other big/current names for paid concerts. Now it looks like we couldn't get those same guys to come back to Starkville 30 years later.

They didn't have a title sponsor this year so funds were dramatically reduced. Last year CSpire was the title sponsor and you get The Avett brothers. If I were the SA I would have driven to meridian and net with peavy got them on as title sponsor and then called the ms blues org and teamed bulldog bash up with them. Between peavy and ms blues org I think we can get someone worth a damn here.

This may be the problem..

You do know Music Maker doesn't do Bulldog Bash right? SA does..
.

Perhaps MM should handle all of the music for the school? MM got us Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Tina Turner, Mister Mister, Go-Go's, Cinderella, etc. Of course that was in the 80's but they got us some THE biggest acts in the US at that time to campus.

Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Night Ranger, Great White, Cinderella, .38 Special, Huey Lewis and a few others........In the mid 80's concerts were frequent at the HUMP.........
