throw the ball ok now. Ole Miss averages 215 yards through the air and Florida averages barely over 200. We average 198.8 a game. We average almost 40 yards more through the air than Bama.

We just can't do anything else well. We just, well, we just suck.

We're still only 10th in the SEC in pass efficiency. Thanks Auburn and Tennessee. BTW, your 14-12 thriller Saturday was every bit as ugly as our 3-2 loss to Auburn a couple of weeks ago.

Granted, that is improvement over last year, but we still have a long way to go to even be decent in the passing game.

at least receptions per game? just curious. if so, that could be a useful stat to pitch to recruits.

I don't think many receivers are going to be too thrilled about playing for the 11th offense in the league (last in scoring offense), no matter how many receptions our receivers have.

[shaking head in disgust].

Mr. Byrne, your file on Croom is getting thicker by the game.

So I limit the "Croom sucks and its not changing" comments, I am anti-Croom at the moment. I am not happy where we are and am not feeling better about the program due to the borderline moral victory some are claiming. Anyway.

To the question....

Its obvious we are throwing the ball more. (Is it QB confidence? Croom realizing we cant just run the ball? what have you. ) Do you think that it is possible that better WRs could make more out of the catches they get? I am holding out hope that as Bell and McRae get more comfortable catching the ball (Robinson as well) that they are able to make more plays after the catch. I think the play calling took a step in the right direction on Sat night.

Regardless, Croom is going to have to find some good players on the offensive side of the ball because we are playing WAY too many walk-ons and crap. We need to sign five JUCO o-linemen because we need some depth desperately. Croom has simply ignored the offensive side of the ball too long in terms of recruiting, and now it is really catching up with him.

The thing about Bama's meteoric rise in competitiveness and on-field success, as much as I hate it, is that they are also rocketing up the list of bigger time recruits, such as Reuben Randle and Kevin Norwood. You might find yourself on the outside looking in.

Who's been there from day one?

Who's going to give you immediate playing time?

where are you going to get a NC ring?

I think your points are valid. It comes down to what the player wants- to play more and maybe make it to the Liberty Bowl or sit a few years and maybe win a NC ring.

1. We can't 17-ing run the ball for **** (11th in the SEC in rushing - thanks Arkansas).

2. We've been behind the entire second half in 4 of our 5 games (technically not 100% true, we only trailed for the last 24 minutes of the LA Tech game).

3. Receivers are playing halfway decent this year, which is a huge improvement over last year.

5. QBs are playing slightly better than last year. Of course, it would have been hard for them to play as bad as last year.

but about 158.8 of those 198.8 yards are to the tailback. I do think this Lee kid will open up your offense a little more.

i'm surprised no one has mentioned how stupid our wr routes are in this offense.....there is not alot of big play looking opportunities in our passing game

If Tyler Russell is as good as some say, wouldn't that be a valid reason or selling point for him to come?

I caught the latter part of the replay of the LSU game on CSS and I thought Tyson Lee played pretty well. I thought he threw the ball better than Carroll. Granted I only saw a little bit of the game but his stats were 17 of 26 for 175 yards. Snead was 9 for 20 with 185 yards against Florida.

Now Bumphis could use the wild hog/rebel as an excuse but he isn't.

this helps prove my point.......9 completions for 185 yards = 20.5 yard avg. per reception........not to mention Nutt uses his playmakers in alot of other ways other than just reciever.

You know, our leading receiver from last year?

Sorry if this is old news (I refuse to use the G-word), but I damn sure missed it.

for the year, mcrae and bell are only averaging 9 yards a catch...thats our top two recievers......not alot of big play opportunities in the passing scheme....could be what patterson and bumphis are looking at....yes, we throw the ball, but not down the field

well, for Snead, 46% of those yards came on one play to Hodge where the FL safety just left him. And had Ducre made the easy catch we would have had a big play of our own. We're throwing the ball better.

The AU game is the only one where we looked totally inept in the passing game and some of that is due to AU's defense being well above average and part of it was our game plan just wasn't good.

Patdog's number one has a ton to do with it. Several of you are missing the big picture and are only focusing on the passing game.

Your run game is poor at the moment. In turn, defenses (combined with your average WR's & QB's) are stopping the pass.

Recruits aren't passing on you strictly because of the passing game. If that was the case, then they wouldn't have been looking/committing to you in the first place. Let's not forget that your passing game was piss poor last year also. They committed because of last year's success, not offense.

The difference last year was that you were winning some big games. That isn't happening this season. 1-4 with a sloppy losses to LaMo, a boring offensive effort against AU, and a blowout at GT have more to do with recruits perception than your passing offense. Think about it from the perspective of an offensive recruit, what game that you guys have played thus far would inspire you to commit to MSU? The SELA win?

You guys need to get back to pounding the ball, stopping the run, and leave Lee in at QB to manage the game.

Our running game was **** last year, yet people went on and on all summer about how good a rushing team we were. We averaged 130 something yards a game last year on the ground which is pathetic. But, couple that with the fact that are passing numbers were even lower and it means you have one hell of an inept offense.

our starter, Tyson Lee - 47 completions for 466 yards = 9.1 yards a completion

Wes Carroll - 51 completions for 528 yards = 10.3 yards a completion

Jevon Snead - 64 completions for 1029 yards = 16.1 yards a completion

Brandon Bolden had one pass to somebody for 37 yards

MSU averages 10.1 yards a completion on the year

Ole Miss averages 16. 4 yards a completions on the year.
