It is what it is. Good riddance to the Cal era. The aftermath is ugly initially and wish someone would have come back. Take our lumps now for a clean slate and a brighter future putting this fail and bail culture behind.

I don't know what in the hell these kids are looking for. I am one long time college fan that is already worn out with it. The NCAA has allowed this, in a short period of time to create nothing but chaos in college sports.

Yep, I figured this would happen. I think Sheppard is the only one who actually had any affection for Kentucky, the university or the fans. The rest were just Cal mercenaries and were never taught to love wearing that jersey. So, this is exactly what I expected when Calipari left. Knowing this was once a reason I didn't want to see Cal go, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I was selling my soul, so to speak. If these players are just wanting to USE Kentucky to get what they really want (NBA draft status), then why am I so interested in seeing them stick around? And how often did ANYONE that was any good stay around? It happened twice under Cal. It happened in 2010-11 because of the NBA lockout. It happened again in 2014 when some guys decided they had unfinished business from the season before. The rest of the time, guys either declared for the NBA or transferred. Why? Because that was Cal's system. He already recruited over them and promised PT to freshmen.
How do you know Pope didn't tell him to leave? Do you honestly think ANY of Pope's incoming players give a damn about Kentucky? If Central Michigan offered a kid 250 thousand and Kentucky offered 100 thousand, that kid is probably going to CM

My guy-who-lived-through-1989 brain was hoping Burks would stay and be one of those kids who could've left when things got tough but didn't and ended up living in UK lore. That was stupid of me.

Oh well.

The Calipari era has been completely washed away over the course of 12 days.

It’s a good thing…..
Popes players don’t need to have conflict with Cals old players.
A TOTAL Purge and reset I’m good with.

That’s personally what I would do. Especially being a confident coach and assistants probably bringing in possible recruits of theirs.
7 Duke players have already transferred too. College ball is getting stupid honestly. We can’t even keep born and bred players anymore.

I agree, I’m done with these type of player mentality’s. If they leave for NBA, okay. If they are portaling, so long don’t let the door hit ya on way out .
He obviously feels UK is not the best place for him now. Best wishes to him.

Well, it's possible Pope told him to leave. It's more likely he's leaving on his own. But if you listen to Pope, you'll hear him say how much of a privilege it was to wear that jersey and how he intends to instill that in his players. I'm not naive enough to think that the recruits we're talking to just love Kentucky, but I guarantee it will be taught by Pope when they get here. So, they might not "give a damn" right now, but Pope is going to try to instill that in them. And we know Cal didn't instill that in them. He brought them, got them ready for the NBA, and then sent them on, recruited over them, coerced many of them out the door, and sent others to transfer. I don't believe that will happen under Mark Pope.

So does this clear out the last of the Cal regime? Or are there more? I've seriously lost count now.

The I don’t care what happens to them, they’re dead to me when they leave group are really talking about loyalty to the program.

Also the Burks love was fake anyway, it was we don’t like Justin Edwards and you’re not Justin Edwards love.

I am not a member of the pay board . If I post something you’re very welcome to disprove it . Crying to mommy is a weak look do better
That guy is a clown. I blocked him. Only see his post because you responded to him.
Who gives a damn who was first to report or post something?
We live in a crazy world when people cry about not giving someone credit for being first to break a story.
I could care less if someone was first or hundred in line.

The players under Cal were ALWAYS mercenaries! You just now realized this? As long as they were winning I was fine with it…but not winning and bolting got old quick so I’m happy to see a change. However, if you think the reason most of the future UK players are playing at UK for the name on the front of their jersey instead of NIL $…you are in for a rude awakening. Sadly, It’s all about the $/NBA from here on out.

Well WhiskeyCity, I wouldn't say I "just now" realized they were mercenaries. I've known it's been about NBA and money for quite some time, but I tried to think the best of guys when they were here. My statement about playing for the name on the front of the jersey has to do with Pope and the statements he made in his introduction. His approach is very different from Cal's approach.

As I said, Cal brought them in with dreams of NBA, not UK. It was not just understood they would be one and done, it was expected. Guys who didn't have NBA prospects after 1 year were recruited over and expected to go anyway, either to the NBA or to another school. If they didn't go to the NBA after one season, they felt like failures and left. I don't think Pope will have the same approach or system and I'm thankful for that. I'm sure we'll still have some one and done but I don't expect him to basically have them with one foot out the door while they're here. That's Cal's mantra.

Well you may want to have a seat, I am afraid I have some bad news for you,,,,

The players we are trying to sign are JUST LIKE the players from UK jumping in the portal. Hell, some of them have already transferred two or three times. It is not a UK thing, it is a college basketball free agncy thing. Duke has 7 in the portal. So if UK players transferring AFTER a coaching change bothers you, I don't think the New Age college basketball is for you. ALL teams will have guys leave.
You aren’t wrong
I’m just hoping we don’t keep the tradition of a full roster turnover .
