ELLISVILLE - Lane Burroughs, who was offered and accepted the position of head baseball coach at Jones County Junior College last month, is expected to accept a position on the staff of new Mississippi State University head coach John Cohen.</p> <div class="articleflex-container"> <div class="articleflex">

Cohen replaces longtime coach Ron Polk at Mississippi State.</p>
Burroughs was an assistant coach at Kansas State University this past season. From 1999-2007, he served as an assistant coach at Southern Miss. He coached under Cohen at Northwestern (La.) State in 1997-98.</p>
"Coach Burroughs is a quality coach," said JCJC Athletic Director Katie Herrington. "We were looking forward to having him as our baseball coach, but we realize this was a great opportunity for him on the Division I level at Mississippi State. We wish him well."</p>
JCJC officials are now expected to name a new head baseball coach at the next board meeting on June 18.</p> </div>
