My "give-a-dam" started busting when we hired Muschamp. My ex didn't even know football, but she said he was a "snake oil salesman".

The buyouts we pay are NOT normal or based on any "market force". Losers and AARP members do not deserve buyouts.

Our AD is like the worst government. The results now are meaningless and sad. We have all been tricked and robbed.

What difference does it make when we win a game? Fans get temporary happiness, which is soon forgotten.

The coaches and executives will magically take our money either way. Win or lose, they take it all.

The whole idea of athletics is dead to me now. I was a fool to care about these pigs.

There is always money to build, even for non-revenue and losing sports.

This is "the definition of insanity". I cannot give another dam.

We need to invest in things that really matter.

I stopped going to the games and being a Gamecock Club member many, many years ago. My family likes to go to one football game a year. And I have done that. I will usually watch on TV unless we are terrible.

We have done some terrible hires in FB, Mens BB and baseball over the years. Why? I 'm not sure. Maybe, at the time, nobody worth a damn wanted the jobs. Thus, we "settled". That said, I know little and claim less.

As I've gotten older, success in Gamecock sports means less and less to me. Don't misunderstand. I want to win and win big. But, if we don't, I shrug my shoulders. I get a bigger thrill in investment success. I've done pretty, pretty good in that arena. It means more because the better I succeed, the more I give to charities. The thrill I get from giving to children charities, giving a helping hand to those less fortunate, donating to provide food and care to dogs, donating to charities that provide relief to those impacted by natural disasters, donating to promote the care of God's world, beats any thrill I have ever received from Gamecock athletics. Gamecock thrills provide a temporary euphoria. When it's all said and done for me, being a Gamecock fan won't define me. These other things will.

For many, it takes experiences that only come with the passage of time to help us accurately rank our priorities. Congratulations on getting yours sorted. (y)
Blessed are the ones who know these things from the outset and can differentiate wants from needs.

We could have just hired Connor Shaw, BJ McKie, and Landon Powell and experienced the same (or better) results without buyouts.

But everybody just says "no, it's the SEC and the market says we have to guarantee buyouts." Hogwash!

That is collective delusion, because statistics say that half of teams MUST lose. Why guarantee that 50% of coaches are bought out?

Anyway, what are some good investments these days?

Your ex was correct, I was very disappointed as well when it was reported Will Muschamp was going to be the next head coach for football.

I stopped my season tickets and exited the gc club in 2017. My family had been members and season ticket holders for 40 years. The hiring of Muschamp told me that winning didn’t matter. The ludicrous handling of contracts afterwards only confirmed it. I miss seeing friends that I only saw at games. We still have our stadium place spot however. USC has scammed ticket holders/ alumni forever. Being IN Columbia, next door (almost) to state government means constant meddling with the university. If there is no incentive to try to put a winning program out there then you and your $ will be assumed and taken for granted every time. It’s a shame. My first game was 1976. Smh

Back in December 2015 time frame, Heath Cline on 107.5 was pretty supportive of the Muschamp hire. I remember thinking at the time about how that was one of the few times I did not agree with him. The Muschamp regime was also the end of my buying season tickets.

The thing that drives me crazy is that there is no accountability to making bad hires for the Athletic Director, BOT, or school president. Look at the ******* buyouts Ray "Master Negotiator" Tanner put USC on the hook for a bunch of bums no one else was competing with us for...

Will Muschamp - $12.9 million
Mark Kingston - $400k
Frank Martin - $3 million
Chad Holbrook - $600k
Paul Maineri - $3.9 million

Buyouts still hanging over our heads...
Shane Beamer - $27.9 million
Lamont Paris - $12 million

I mean seriously, who was going to hire Muschamp or Paul Maineri away from us? Ray Tanner was directly responsible for wasting $20.8 million in buyouts that USC has had or is still having to pay with another nearly $40 million potentially to come in the next year depending on how mens BB and football do this coming year.

But yeah, the university keeps grifting for higher ticket prices and more donation money for them to totally mismanage. Yeah... no thanks. Ill watch on TV for "free".

Incompetent, short-sighted admins and TV execs with dollar signs in their eyes might have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Fans are dissatisfied with the state of college sports. Revenues remain strong for now, but I don't think it will last.

I have attended hundreds and hundreds of Carolina games. I have been a fan for over 40 years. I used to care a lot about what happens. Twenty years ago, a game like the A&M debacle would have sent me into a tailspin for the rest of the day. No more. I hardly flinched.

Unfettered greed may have put marks on college sports that won't rub off.

I really shake my head at Beamer. Has any other program ever even hinted at having any interest in hiring him? Even after the miracle 9 win 2024 season, there was no talk at all about any other program even considering approaching him.
