Definite buy. My girls wanted to see crazy things that would be said, outfits for the ball, etc.
Normally they'd be picking red-heads or tree fruit to pull for.

I'll sell. I didn't watch, but maybe five minutes of the game. Too many other things going on for me personally yesterday and last night to slow down to watch until late.

I had no interest in the NC game to be honest. Jan 20 is too late for college football to still be going in. Not really a fan of the NFL, but playoff NFL games like we got Sunday with the conditions in Philly and Buffalo was a whole lot more interesting and exciting than last night.
I think you’re right. I was more interested in the quarterfinal & semifinal games than I was last night. I mean I watched the 2nc & most of the 3rd quarter. But I had honestly forgotten about it & just really didn’t don’t care much when I was watching. This is the heat of NFL playoff & college basketball seasons. It was one thing to have just 1 olayoff gsmd after Jan 1. But we’re a lot closer to Feb 1 than we are to Jan 1. It was just anticlimactic.

The Presidential stuff went on all day. People needed a break. Football was the cure. I have a feeling most SEC fans didn't care and tuned out most of the game. I don't think it really mattered what night it was going to be on. Everyone assumed Ohio State was going to win. It was a lot closer than I thought it would be. I had to go to hospital with wife to see her dad so I recorded it. I watched the first half then fast forwarded to the 4th. I kind of glad I did.

The whole playoff was a cluster17.

1) Should have been 16 teams instead of 12;
2) Seeding was stupid, due to the byes;
3) Should have played all the playoff 1st round games in the same day or a couple of days, to create that NCAA 1st weekend dance effect, even if there is some overlap;
4) Yes, not only was January 20 too late, it was on a bad day (both inauguration AND MLK day).
5) Why do they insist on having it on a Monday night at 7:30? Why not Friday night, in this case, January 17?

They just sell out 100,000% to draconian TV rules instead of just using an ounce of common sense or innovation.

I watched the game…. But I didn’t watch any of the inauguration. Did they overlap? I thought the inauguration was in the morning and then done with?

Inauguration absolutely had an impact but I can’t quantify it. Could easily be a week earlier by playing the first round games the same weekend as the Army/Navy game. The participating teams last night didn’t exactly entice everyone to tune in the same way as usual. Two teams a little over 4 hours away doesn’t scream for national attention to me.

I say buy. In an ordinary election year probably not an issue but I think yesterday's inauguration pulled a TON of interest away from the game. In retrospect they should have gone with another night.
Agree. The scheduler let things slip through the crack. And it had to have hurt the television audience to a great degree.

As someone who couldn’t have given less of a 17 about either one of them, and didn’t watch either, where was the conflict?

Inauguration normally happens early in the day, correct? He wasn’t getting sworn in during the 1st quarter.

I was burnt out by the political talking heads by the time the game started but I still quit watching at the end of the third quarter. Started reading a book about Bill Ruger inventing the Standard 22 automatic

I'll wait until the ratings come up to see if more or less people watched the game.

We jumped over and checked the score a few times, but proudly and thankfully watched the inauguration for about 12 hours yesterday.
12 hours? WTF…. Man I had no idea those events took that long. Literally thought it was like an hour or so thing.

Man I struggle to make it through a 2 hour long movie that I’m actually interested in. It’s almost impressive you were able to watch 12 hours of that.

I think the biggest problem is it was January 20th. Most teams’ seasons have been over for at least 3 weeks. Some teams have been done for almost 2 months. The 12 team playoff ended up being fun but you’ve gotta wrap it up sooner.
If deer season is over, college football should be too. Deer season in TN was a nice distraction on Saturdays this year. Of course, in my humble but accurate opinion, deer season should still be open in west TN, but that’s another argument.

NFL playoffs would crush the college championship game in the ratings. They’d lose at least 20% of their viewers.
FIGURE OUT A WAY to make it work. I'm sure there is a win win

The Saturday NFL games were at 4:30 pm and 8:00 pm EST.

Noon CST on Saturday is better than a week night in my opinion.

Sell.

But, maybe my view is tainted since I can't remember the last time I watched an inauguration. I watched Reagan's first one, but I was in school and they made us. Since then I've been pretty satisfied just catching up on the highlights.

I do think it's important for young people to witness the peaceful transition of power, with the outgoing President happily welcoming his replacement to usher in the new administration.

But once that's over, just watch something entertaining. I can't imagine wanting to watch a President sign executive orders, or attend DC galas.

Figure out a way to make it work? While you’re at it figure out a way to exceed the speed of light.

The win-win is to not play on Saturdays vs NFL, especially NFL playoffs. You will lose every time. And do you really want a championship game that starts at 9AM on the west coast? That’s a losing proposition too.
