Buy/Sell. Barry has better pro upside than Jarvis.

I'm gonna buy, and I'm sure I will pay for this, but here goes. Barry reminds me of Bruce Bowen. He can make some3 pointers, and he plays lock down defense. They always say that if you do one thing really well you can make it in the NBA. Well I think Barry is a phenomenal defender, and is an above average 3 point shooter. He may not get drafted, but with as small as Jarvis is in terms of weight, I think he may struggle in the NBA. NBA teams will substitute an effective point scorer for a guythat guy defend like crazy and hit a few shots.

Barry plays great defense, but lacks a lot of things for the NBA. He plays great defense on opposing guards, but nothing like Jarvis' defense. Its not evena comparison. He is one of my favorite players at MSU for the last ten years, but his defense isn't enough to make up for his somewhat lacking all-around game. I would do anything to see him play at the next level, but I don't see it happening.

I just think there aren't many good shut down defenders in the league, and a guy like Barry thathas a vergood pull up jumper, and the ability to hit the 3 and play really good defense, can find a place and be successful in the NBA. Off the bench of course. But I think Jarvis is gonna have some serious trouble in the NBA. Guys that have owned him in his career have bodies like NBA guys. I hope Jarvis does well, but I can't think of anyone in the NBA that even resembles Jarvis in terms of frame or style of play. Maybe that uniqueness will help him out.

No way in hell. I don't think Jarvis will every be a significant contributor on a team but he'll have a roster spot for a while. Barry will never sniff the NBA. There are much better players that have come through the SEC recently that haven't been able to land a roster spot. Heck even at MSU Bowers never got a crack and Zimmerman could only land a few 10-day contract. W. Frazier was a much better defender as well.

I'll be shocked if Barry even earns a 10-day contract in the league.

Jarvis will be drafted early based on his situational potential. When a team needs to sub in defensive players in the closing seconds of a game, who could be better?Barry/Randy will be unlikely to find a spot on a NBA roster. The NBA isbased too heavily on offense to draft aguard who shoots a ~35% long ball no matter how great his defense. If he shot ~40% and weighed 30lbs heavier, he might have a spot. MSU will miss him greatly, but he is not even on NBA teams' radar.

Would be a huge sell but I'm not sold on JV in the NBA either, simply b/c of size.

Barry plays very sound defense, and he's athletic enough for that to translate into a good defender in the SEC, but I think he'd be an averagedefender at best in the NBA. Just too many guards out there that could take advantage of him physically, and I'm not sure he'd really be able to lock anybody down. Certainly not to the extent that it would make up for his offensive shortcomings. Then throw in the fact that unless he could consistently cover much bigger, stronger 2 guards, he'd have to be matched with a big point guard that could cover 2's while Barry covered the opposing point.

JV on the other hand has an identifiable skill, and a freak wingspan, which may make up for the fact that he'll probably get pushed around a lot early on.

The NBA doesn't exactly need a tiny guard that will have what amounts to no offensive game in the NBA. Rudy Gay could hold Barry scoreless. And those "lock-down defenders" in the NBA are like 4-5 inches taller than Barry, weigh around 30 more pounds, are just as fast (if not faster), most are great rebounders, and they make themselves useful on offense by setting picks.

but you must not watch many NBA games. As mentioned, there are people that are Barry x 10 as far as skills go and about 4-5" taller and 40 lbs and they're a dime a dozen.

We do not have an NBA player on our roster. Jarvis is similar to Tim Tebow in the fact that he is a dominant player in college but his game doesn't translate into the pro's.

Looking at a 7 foot guy playing power forward (Gasol) and a 6'11 guy bringing the ball up the court and hitting threes (Odom) while 6'8 and 6'9 guys were hanging around the three point line made me really seriously doubt if there is a place in the NBA for Jarvis. I would love to see him hook on somewhere as a Rodman type garbage man but I can't see much more than that.</p>

makes me think that Jarvis may be able to put on the weight necessary to play in the NBA. Coach Varnado is a big man. If Jarvis adds more weight he could hold a roster spot and later contribute. He is currently all we have and is constantly double and triple teamed everytime he touches the ball but is still putting up great numbers.

Picks, rebounds, and a defensive presence. There are a lot of guys in the league that do only that. It's up to Jarvis on whether he does it for one year or 5-8 years, but he definitely has the tools to be a role player on a roster somewhere.

Barrydoes not even attempt to scorewhen he drives to the basket. He hopes he gets contact and goes to the line.
While Jarvis does not have the beef to go against SEC competition much less NBA competition. Jarvis is out of shape and can't last 10 minutes without standing around with his hands on his knees. I hate to sound like Debbie Downer but neither of these players will ever have any meaningful NBA careers. On the positive, they both have had great college careers, and Jarvis should set an NCAA record if he stays healthy.
