redshirt is burned once you touch the field. Medical redshirt can only happen before 25% of the season is played (I think it's 25%).
To get a medical redshirt, you can play in up to either 3 or 4 games (can't remember which and not gonna look it up right now), but you can't play at all in the second half of the season. So you are correct that when Clark took his first snap tonight, he lost any chance of a medical redshirt.</p>
