...Croom has, at the very least, made us competitive again and kept us out of hot water with the NCAA. The job today is much more attractive than it was when he took over in 2003. If he goes, maybe we'll be in a position to get a good, experienced coordinator.

First, I don't think we pull a replacement OC from any program that is considered a "powerhouse." Why take a step back?

Now, if you had said, "D-1 OC from a successful mid-major," then I would have said push instead of sell. Someone fitting that description might look into the job, but his taking it would depend on whether Croom would essentially run his own offense regardless or step out of the way.

Not as long as Croom is going to force his version of the WCO on them. Even if promises to let them run the offense, who wants to work for a head coach that punts from the 30 and goes for it from the 50?

I would prefer for Croom to turn the offense over to an OC that can produce points/yards and develop WR/QBs. Croom gets us great pub and he is a great front man for us.

I'll nominate Ron English, defensive coordinator at Louisville, formerly DC on Lloyd Carr's staff at Michigan. He's a proven defensive mind, so I think the D would remain good. I also think he would hire a good OC and let them do their thing since he doesn't know crap about offense. He also has drawn HC consideration from Arkansas & Michigan. He would be the 2nd black head coach in SEC history, and therefore hiring him would destroy any negative media we might get for firing the 1st black coach in SEC history. Also, he has no ties to Alabama!

The really hot-shot coordinators who are going to be candidates for the really big coaching jobs (like a Mark Richt when he was still at Florida St. or a Bob Stoopes when he was still at Florida) still won't touch us. But when we fire Croom after next season, we'll have a good list of candidates interested in our job.</p>

one thing that hurt us during our last search was LT not wanting to deal with a coach's agent. I think we would have gotten Jimbo Fisher otherwise.

We're in the SEC. That alone makes us very attractive.

I would actually like to get Chris Hatcher because he does have HC experience, but I would be OK with a coordinator.
