it would send MSU into a tailspin for the rest of the season... similar to how TSUN loss to Jacksonville State ruined their mindset the whole rest of the way.

The similarities are there... Bears had just come off a great season, Cotton Bowl win, Rose Bowl MVP transfer QB behind center. They had every reason to win that game, but JSU wanted it more and it knocked the wind out of them for the remainder of the season. You ask a Bear what happened last year and they'll tell you that the loss to JSU set the tone for the rest of the season.

God forbid, if MSU loses to Memphis would the same thing happen?

What say ye?

UM wasn't coming off a great season; they scraped together a Cotton Bowl win after being a top-10 preseason pick. We are coming off a great season where we weren't expected to do much of anything and our only four losses came to teams that all played in and won* major bowl games.<div>
</div><div>They had a transfer quarterback who had gotten into serious trouble and was transferring because he was kicked off his previous team. We have a senior QB who has been at State for his entire college career.</div><div>
</div><div>But yeah, all your other similarities listed are there.</div><div>
</div><div>*Arkansas may not have won, but tOSU had to vacate that win, so I'm counting it as a win for Arkansas</div>

if you go to a restaurant and the waiter 17s your wife on the table and then takes a **** on your plate, does it set the tone for the rest of the meal?

I hesitate to say this, but such a loss right now would potentially be a program crippler. Right now we have unprecedented confidence in our program. One of the things that fuels this confidence is that we have finally moved past having to fret about being torpedoed by teams like memphis. Of course it can happen and it does occasionally happen to very good programs. But we are in a vulnerable position right now. We have plenty of confidence but that confidence is not resilient enough to withstand a shocking loss like that. Not yet anyway. A loss on Thursday would shatter every bit of momentum we have built up.
