in the seventies and early eighties, you are adamantly against playing them, as you remember the fights in the games, Duane Brown's pick 6 that effectively killed the 77 team, Sammy Winder getting knocked 5 yards back by Johnny Cooks and still scoring in a 42-14 blowout in 1980 when we still went 9-2, Bobby 17 Collins getting 5 of the top 10 players in Mississippi using all means, fair and unfair, playing in Jackson splitting the gate 50-50 when 90% of the fans were MSU folks, I could go on and on and on..................................

If you were there, you remember the very heated rivalry and know we should NEVER PLAY THEM. They have no natural rival-why would we give them an in state rivalry game?

Better yet, since we stopped playing, how many recruits have they gotten that we wanted? When we played, we lost several every year.

I remember all to well and I am buying in bulk.

Unfortunately, none of this matters as we will have to suck it up and do the best we can!@#!#!

USM today is nothing more than a faint shadow of what they were back then. And it's not like we're playing them in a 10-year deal like we did then. It's just 2 17-ing games.

I had to search but finally found a post I agree with re: the MSU-USM games. How in the hell anyone can compare USM of today to those "Nasty Bunch" teams in the early 80s is beyond me. Let's play the games and get over it.

Saw the last one in H'burg. What an enjoyable night! But this is a topic we will never get everyone on the same page. No need to try.

because MSU and UM pulled the rug out from under them. With folks like yourself supporting them perhaps they`ll make a come back and we can again split the talent in this poor assed state 3 ways. Stupid stupid stupid

I am old enough to remember the series well. All we are agreeing to as far as I can see it playing them two games, not resuming a yearly series. I don't really care for 1 and 1, I would rather have 2 and 1 but scheduling has changed and we aren't in a position to buy games yet. After 2015, maybe we will be. I also cannot see basing our decision making on past experiences alone.

...to Greg's and Dr. Keenum's logic, but until I hear there is a financial advantage for MSU that is AT LEAST EQUAL to the financial advantage USM gets, I have a HUGE BUY!

I remember playing them. I have been to several games. In fact the largest crowd to watch a college football game in the state was MSU and USM. What piss MSU fans off the most was the money and those, damn, butt ugly, baby **** yellow colored polyester shirts with those big, *** collars flapping in the breeze. I remember seeing that and thinking to my self DAMN! When they played in Jackson you could count on 60K plus in the stand. 45k of that crowd was MSU fans but the ticket sells were split 50/50. This time around when we go to USM to play, they will sell out. Not because MSU fans buys the tickets, but because this will motivate them to buy tickets.

they aren't like they were in the 80's is because we quit playing them. Think about it. Most of their yearly revenue was from splitting gates 50/50 with State and Ole Miss in Jackson despite having 20% or less of the fans there. We cut that out from under them.

We need to continue doing to them what they did to their mascot - don't feed them.
