Right now I'm buying. I know we have some hitting issues, but for me right now, I am counting almost every Sunday as a guaranteed loss because we don't have a pitcher that I trust on Sundays. If Routt can come in and solidify the Sunday starting spot, I think we have a much better chance to salvage some games against these top notch teams. Routt is probably as talented or more than most Sunday pitchers in the SEC. If we can get wins on Sundays, I like our chances of getting to the tournament and getting to a regional.

Not only do we not have a clear Sunday starter, but our Friday and Saturday night guys are both right handed. I hope Routt can get some bullpen sessions over the next couple of weeks, pick up some mid week innings as a starter and pick up some relief innings during the first few SEC series and be ready to start on Sundays about mid way through SEC play. There are a lot of "ifs" in this post, but it would be huge if we could roll Routt out as our Sunday starter mid way through SEC play.

is not being considered for the Sunday starter? I know we like to use him in middle relief but so far he has pitched pretty well in his middle of the week starts plus he's experienced. I also know he's another right hander but the lefties we've tried (Statz, Girodo, Watson) just haven't shown they can get it done right now.

his talents are better suited for mid-week games and SEC relief appearences. I would imagine he will continue to start our mid week games and see relief appearences during weekend series where we have no mid week games.

We really need a left handed starter to be able to go during an SEC weekend series and right now, we dont have one. This is why Routt is so important to us. Mitchell has looked good at times, but he also looked like a true freshman at times. Of course, our ace last year was a true freshman that posted a 6.16 ERA during conference play. Now, our team SEC ERA last year was 9.13, so 6.16 doesnt look that bad relatively speaking. Think about that for a second...a team ERA, in conference play, of almost 10.

I said before the season started that if Routt or Stratton aren't healthy during the season, it was going to get bad. If Routt can get back to where he was his freshman year, our starting pitching should actually be able to make us somewhat competitive and keep our lack of bullpen depth from being taken advantage of. And by somewhat competitive, I mean at least 10 conference wins.

Even if he can only give us five innings, that is helpful. We can throw Pollerena for two and then Reed for two and win, not to mention the plethroa of dual position guys that we have that can pitch.
