Buy/Sell: Polk would have been fired had he not resigned.

I am going with buy. I think he would have been forced toward the door after Byrne witnessed this debacle of a season. We suck in every facet of the game. Almost as if they just show up without practice and play like an intramural game. We drrop routine flys. Can't bunt. Don't pull struggling pitchers. Strand base runners. All these things go right back to Number 1.

Go look at Gene's Page. I let out some anti-Polk rants during the Baylor/Georgia series and about got run out of there. Some of our fans will defend Polk if he 17-ed their mom.

We got damn lucky he resigned.

As far as sucking, you completely right. It's pathetic. Really really pathetic. But somehow our worst team in a century still split the season series with Ole Miss (joke, OP4, bydamn, bruiser).

simply based on the countless injuries and the run to the CWS last season combined with the fact that Byrne is brand new. If Polk produced these results next season, then I think Byrne would have canned him.

Too much respect for the "Legend", a lot of it undeserved amidst this tank job of a season. He deserves every bit of criticism he gets though and I hope Polks *** enjoys going out like this. He's a sad bitter old coach that has tarnished his legacy by going down in flames in his final season.

I'm with you on that. And that shows just how much of a disappointment our baseball team has been this year. So far this year, we're the only SEC team that you don't have a losing record against. That's a nice little black mark on our resume.

I really thought we were going to be one of the top teams in the SEC this year, a basic lock for a regional host, possibly earn a national seed. And I really thought MSU was going to present our toughest challenge in the SEC West this year, with MSU a definite NCAA team, possibly a hosting team.

Shows how much I know I guess. Been a very disappointing baseball season in the state. It's a sad state of affairs when USM is the team from the state of Mississippi that has the best chance to possibly host a regional.

Polk is too much of a Legend and still has too much support and too many people that worship him for us to force him out. On top of that we have a brand new AD. No way he would have been canned this season. When LT rehired him we were basically stuck with Polk until he decided to retire. Thank goodness he actually did it.

Buy.

We are going to have a losing season. We may not win an SEC series all year. Should we get lucky tonight, we will split at best with USM. We lost to Air Force. Our attendance is dropping like a rock, and they may have happened without all of the Polk/Raffo vs Greg Byrne soap opera. And you can do your best Jim Mora impression while I discuss our chances at the SEC Tournament, or going to a Regional.

MSU has a LOT shorter leash for baseball than they do for football.

I just don't think Byrne has the stroke this early to have pulled the trigger on Polk.

Absolutely no chance.....

First, Byrne does not take over until July 1st - he certainly would not let a coach go in his first couple of days in office a good six weeks after the season was over

Second, the team made the CWS last season

no matter how pathetic they're coaching abilities maybe. See:Sharon Fanning
See: The Kang

Many Sheep would still be luvin' JWS if were here today.

Give OM credit, at least they get rid of their deadweight.

......successes and failures on the field, but they're the same in terms of being untouchable until they decide to hang it up.

yet.
There is, not insignificant, chance that he will do or say something to get him fired.

That's one thing none of us ever have to worry about happening.
