I'm going with a buy on this. The conferences are wanting more control of the revenue streams and they want the winners of their superconferences to not be eliminated from the national title before they postseason even begins.

The Superconferences give us a potential playoff structure, but there is still the problem of dealing with the NCAA. The reason we don't have a playoff right now is because the BCS schools don't want to share the money with the smaller schools. NCAA will need to come up with a way to let the Superconferences keep most of the money for a playoff to happen.....and that is tough to do since majority of the NCAA would have to agree to let go of the money.

I don't know, though, maybe Mark Emmert's NCAA restructuring will provide an avenue to get this done.

..for the simple reason as the super conferences coalesce, the only way to determine any logical ranking will be to have a play-off system.

The school presidents will continue to fight a play-off system with all the force they can muster, but they are mostly old men still stuck in the mid-20th century.

Once the new generation of school presidents begin to come of age, you'll get your play-off system.

The bowl systems pay too much money to university presidents and athletic directors.

I think the Super Conferences will break away from NCAA and start doing their own thing, including a playoff. Eventually, they aren't going to want to share that huge pile of money with the rest of the NCAA.

The NCAA has no control at all over the Bowls due to a court case they lost long ago so why wouldn't the three new super conferences get together with some bowls and setup a playoff system that just leaves the little guys out completely? I know the NCAA would have to sanction the additional games but they would really have no choice. If they piss off the three super conferences then why would we even need the NCAA?

Far fetched... but it could definitely happen.

I hear this argument pretty often when it comes to playoffs. People seem to think that playoffs and bowls can't coexist, but I beg to differ. The bowls can stay, the sponsors can stay. The ridiculous amount of teams that get to play a post season game can stay. However, say you take a handful of the upper tier bowls and implement them into the playoff system. The top 8 or 16 teams, depending on how big they want to make this thing, play through the higher profiles bowls. If anything there's more money to be made, not less.
