from an 8 win season (won with the worst offense and coaching staff in the country) gives you the hope that this could be the turn around for MState football.

/Turn aournd season meaning 6 wins or better.

We lucked our way into that winning season and the reason we did is gone now (Pegues).

Now, I actually do have hope for our football team this season, but it has nothing to do with what happened two years ago.

I am worried about our defense.

Otherwise, when you consider that Croom routinely lost 3-4 games due to incredibly stupid coaching decisions and lack of special teams...we'll easily get those this time. However, I'm not sure our defense will be better than last year and it can't be better than what Ellis Johnson was putting on the field.

Any extra offensive production will be given back up by the defense. I'm still doubtful for the amount of production we get at the WR position being so thin and young.

Obviously I don't think any of us would "predict" us to have a 6 win season. But there are many of us that would give us 4 wins. Which means a few close games can go either way and we end up with 6. That also means that we could end up with 2-3.
4's my prediction.
5 would make me satisfied.
6 would make me extremely happy
Anything more than that and there's no telling what I'd do

The talent level Crxxm left Mullen with is as low as its been at MSU in a long long time. At the very least since the mid-80s and probably since the 1960s.

just scrolling through the 2007 roster, we have lost a lot of our D since then. We will probably not be as good defensively as we have been in the last few years, but we have upgraded every where else. Hell, our coaching and kicking game upgrades alone should = +2 wins. As far as 2007s 8 win team having no effect on this year, I disagree... We return 6 OL from that team, Dixon, Ducre, McRae, and Stallworth at RB(if he can get to 100%), Chaney on D, and Henderson at TE. I like that these guys have an 8 win season under their belts.

really didn't have that great of a year last year. Average at best. I think Mithcell will be a better overall defender before he leaves than Pegues was. Pegues was flashy his jr. year by running a couple picks back for TD's and the punt return against OM.

Look at last years stats for tackles:

Pegues 11 starts 22 solo tackles 50 overall tackles
Mitchell 0 starts 17 solo tackles 31 overall tackles

Looking back over the stats, hell, Zach Smith had 24 solo's with only 2 starts.

6 wins should possible by getting rid of croom. As far as the 8 win season, Pegues was only a factor in one game the egg bowl.

Not have McShank in there will make a world of difference, at least I'm convinced of that. There were so many times where special teams broke us. The vegetable should help.

we certainly sucked, but i don't think we're in a hopeless situation, even for this year. i think the last two teams we've had should have won 6 games each. this year's team probably won't win 6 because of how hard the schedule is, but i think we'll win 5
