If Stricklin gets into a bidding war to hire a women's basketball coach, I'd be seriously pissed at him. We need to pay the next coach what we paid Fanning this year, or less depending on experience. Save the bigexpenditures for football, men's basketball and baseball.

1) Women's BB is not a priority for State. Being low man on the totem in the SEC by a long shot means we have must pick our battles wisely. First priority are revenue generating sports. We cannot pay top dollar for a women's coach.

2) Because of #1 mitchell would have to take a gargantuan pay cut. About 70% . Home is one thing but taking care of your family is another.

3) He has it going on at UK. 'Coming home' is unlikely to be enough to make him throw that away and start from ground zero at State for 3 times less than he's making now?

4) The coming home angle is a bit overrated. Once you leave and have been gone for a while the pull gets less strong. I left home 25+ years ago for employment. The first few years I desperately wanted to get back to MS. But life happened, I got married, had kids, put down roots. Now while I still love MS and visit as much as I can, I would have to consider any opportunity to return very carefully because where I am is also home. Its home to my kids. Its where my friends are. Now I know coaches don't put down roots like that but the principle still applies.
