Is Alabama that much better than the rest of the SEC again or has the gap closed?

I don't think you can lose all the players Bama lost on D and still be as good. I don't care how great they've recruited. I think they lose a couple.

I think two undefeated non-SEC teams will go. It just seems unlikely for Alabama or Florida (much less anyone else) to go undefeated in the regular season again. I put the odds at 40%.

Besides, I'd rather see Boise State go than Alabama go.

with 6 teams having off weeks to rest and prepare, Bama will be getting everybody's best constantly- look for them to have a few more injuries this year and go 10-2...

I can see Bama getting to the BCS game again. I know they lost allot of folks but who is going to push them in SEC? I really think Auburn will have a chance for the West and should win 10 games.

If its not going to be an SEC teamfor all the marbles, who is going to be? Nebraska will win the Big 12 and Ohio St. Big 10.

Who almost beat Alabama last season?

Tennessee- Bama had to block not 1 but 2 FG's to hold off Tenn in T-Town- Tenn had open week to get ready
Auburn- had 2 TD lead on Bama- Auburn had open week before to get ready
Hell, we even gave them fits but we couldnt execute in the first quarter to take advantage and then we wore down in 4th quarter

LSU had open week before Auburn- beat them 31-10 and Auburn scored garbage TD with under a minute left in game

Fla had open week before LSU- defense had LSU stymied and Florida took a tough game on the road

Bama had off week before LSU- Bama was fresh in the 4th- LSU was cramping and that helped Bama take the lead and on to victory

SC has open week before Clemson- pulls upset and game was never close

It makes a huge difference Pat...

The SEC is pretty mediocre outside of Bama andFlorida. Althoughboth Bama and UF might take a step back and not go undefeated, the gap is still so wide that they won't be challenged in winning their respective divisions.

So basically, unless Bama goes undefeated, the SEC won't beplaying for the national title. Hell, ifSaban had never come to the SEC, we wouldn't have nearly the prestigeas a conference that we do now

I do understand your reasoning behind the off week stuff. I hate Bama more than anything, but they are going to be hard to beat regardless of someone having an off week or two before they play them.
They might just slip up and lose to Penn State. But the bad thing about that is we will have to hear how the Big Ten is a better conf. than the SEC.

All of the Bama fans are really worried about the South Carolina game. I think that they will have problems in Baton Rouge and when Florida come to T Town. I am not saying that they will lose those two but it will be their real tests of the year.

They blew up Arkansas last year and I would be they do the same. Plus Arkansas has no defense. The can score with the best of them but just will not be able to stop anyone.

I am ready to label them as the best team of all time. Having 6 conference games with all those opponents have their bye week before they play you... It would be absolutely amazing if they were undefeated. So much so, that I can go ahead and say that it would make them the best team ever.

Edited to answer question: Sell.
Although I believe the best team in the nation will be from the SEC, I do not believe they will play in the National Championship game.

You don't have to have a good defense when you can score allot of points.Look at the teams out west like the Ducks and Boise St. Plus we are not talking about last year and its Bamas first SEC road game and Bama lost I think 9 starters on D, can't compare last year....doesn't make sense. Yea they will probably win but will be closer than most would think. LSU is going to be scrappy but not like old.

...for this exercise, I'm amending the "stock" to "an undefeatedSEC teamgoes back to BCSCG"
1) the odds of Bama running a 3rd consecutive reg. season slate undefeated have to be astronomical.
2) while the front 7 on the Bama defense will be as good, perhaps better, the secondary will need time to gel...
3) the offense will be outstanding, however the conservative approach lends itself to the occassional close game that really wasn't that close (see Bama/LSU 2009)... they should run the ball at will and knock out 35-40 points a game
4) lookout for the trip to see Mallet in Arkansas as well as a potential "trap" game vs SOS and Garcia at columbia....
5) Bama and Florida likely play twice
6)Bama also has toplay AT LSU and Tennessee, two teams that will have the Bama game circled.
7) the schedule, in general, open dates, Penn State, the Iron Bowl....

that being said, I still can't pick a loser on the schedule...

I won't break down the difference between Bama's 2009 and 2010 defenses player by player, but suffice it to say, overall, it will be more talented this year...the only drop off (and it will be slight) will be in the secondary....
