Hell the assassination of JFK did not get this much publicity. Every channell on Sirius this morning was talking about it (ESPN, Mad Dog Sports, FoxNews, CNN, etc.) Holy ****. You would think this guy was MLK Jr, Jackie Robinson, Liberace, and Rosa Parks all rolled into one.

I am glad for the guy and wish him the best but damn enough is enough already.

Why'd you buy a radio with no off switch or music stations?

It's the biggest story in sports at the moment and it just turned 24 hours old. It's a really big deal in general given history of attitudes toward the gay community in this country... and it's only 24 hours old.

Big sell - Its a huge story, both sports and news

and only a day old. Plus its a feel good story. Much less important stories have dominated the sports/news cycle for much longer.

Sell. It happened yesterday.

Plus, it's a big deal to many people. I think it's an interesting topic and good dialogue. It will be interesting to see if this is a "tip of the iceberg" event and several others follow his lead...

No he won't.

Good move by Him. he is 34 and not very good. If his team cuts Him He can Holla "It's Because I'm Gay" .

He's a free agent in July. If he has a team next season then that team just signed the first openly gay NBA player.

MSU was the first SEC team to have a black head football coach. We fired him for performance and got little backlash.

The little I have read about him indicates that he's a good guy from a good family. I doubt he is doing it to use it as a potential weapon.

BUY! I can't recall another group of people who that represent such a tiny percentage of the general population yet demand a substantially disproportional amount of media pandering. The amount of airtime given to such issues is astounding in consideration of the small number of people who actually subscribe to it.

To make it sports related, imagine hacky sack aficionados demanding equal coverage on ESPN with college football. Now imagine the media becoming infatuated with the hacky sack issue and entire groups of people who don't even understand hacky sack joining all the hacky sackers in protests and marches, etc. Now imagine that it goes on for years and years and years. Even further, some large cities decide to derive their identity nearly entirely from hacky sack. At some point, a lot of people are going to pretty much be sick of hearing about hacky sack, regardless of whether they are for it/against it or just don't care. Then they would start to speak out and subsequently be bashed by the masses who don't really give a crap about hacky sack, but know that it would be insensitive to not pander to the hacky sackers!

I realize that is a bad comparison because there are probably actually a higher percentage of people who play hacky sack than there are gays...

Yes.

good family?

They taught Sunday school, gave their children diverse exposure to different religions and cultures, taught their children to love and support each other. They are also batting 1.000 on their children attending Stanford. On the surface, I'd say they did a pretty good job.

he's some back bench scrub with nothing to lose. Free agent, no sponsors, no nothing. Now he's marketable, shrewd business move by him.

now if LeBron or someone with something to actually lose wants to make some giant lifestyle announcement then that'll be big news.

People are not discriminated against, bullied, disowned, or murdered for being hackey-sack players... that I know of.

Does Jason Collins own every news outlet that is giving him attention? Is he forcing the media to pay him attention? I didn't know he was so powerful. The media reports what folks are interested in hearing and debating. Do you think the collective media is trying to force something down your throat? They are trying to make money. If people are talking about it, clicking links, etc., they are going to give it attention. If nobody cared, they wouldn't report it.

That wouldn't be a bad comparison

if you had no choice whether to play hackey sack or not, if people told you were an abomination to their god because you played hackey sack, if you got bullied and beat up because you played hackey sack, if you were murdered because you played hackey sack, if a disproportionate number of teenagers who played hackey sack committed suicide because of the bullying, and if there were laws on the books that said because you play hackey sack you can't be legally joined to the person you love.

Other than those minor points... Spot on, Link.

Didn't realize you were such a knuckle dragger either.

Question: if you catch some dude in your back yard f*cking your dog, and he tells you he has no choice whether to f*ck your dog, what would you say?

Simple answer...

Maybe not, but my dog doesn't have the ability to say yes or no, so stop effing my dog.

You know that if a gay man ever hit on you that you still possess the ability to say no right?

Consenting adult relationships = animal rape?

How did you get there?

People should keep their sexual fetish to themselves and the media should not give them a platform to announce it. Also, it is ridiculous that a player wants to be known for his sexual preference rather than his career accomplishments.

But it's the society we live in now, so better get used to it. There is no greater accomplishment in life at this point in time than to announce you are gay.

I think that the media has an agenda. I mean all of them, just varies on which direction they slant it. They are in the business of making the news not reporting it. I'm just tired of hearing about it. By the same token I also grow weary of seeing Al Sharpton and mostly blame the media idiots who would put a microphone in his face as if he were credible. Same issue to me on both fronts. I don't hate Al for being an idiot, I just wish I didn't have to hear about it. And yes, despite your attestation to my ignorance I do understand channel changing and on/off switches and all kind of new fangled stuff...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Martina Navratilova wasfirst. Also didn't Brittany Griner come out also he said he liked women not men, so maybe he is not gay I don't know.

if you had no choice whether to play hackey sack or not,

You may not have a choice in your sexual preference, but you ALWAYS have a choice in how you react to it. You are displaying weak thinking.

if people told you were an abomination to their god because you played hackey sack,

Why do you care? Someone who says "god" or is openly gay obviously doesn't respect the true God so what do you care about this issue? Busted. Try and come back from that one, slick.

if you got bullied and beat up because you played hackey sack,

What's this got to do with Jason Collins? People are bullied and beat up over many things.

if you were murdered because you played hackey sack,

See previous reply.

if a disproportionate number of teenagers who played hackey sack committed suicide because of the bullying,

See previous reply.

and if there were laws on the books that said because you play hackey sack you can't be legally joined to the person you love.

Gays want to be married because of division of the assets, PERIOD.

People like you who are out championing this ideal agenda are flat out getting taken for a ride, son. It's all about money. Sooner you realize that the better off you'll be. Unfortunately people like you who actually give a crap about this stuff are the majority, thus the media spoon feeds this BS to us everyday.

You kind of went past the original question which is basically is too big a deal being made? I say yes. I am curious as to where would you draw the line as to who(or what) I can love and still demand that the world support the relationship as normal? Is there an end? Is there any warm or cold blooded relationship that I could claim that would be wrong? Serious question.

BTW, if anyone tells you or someone you know that God hates them because of their actions, you need only refer to the Bible to find the truth. Seem to be quite a few painting with a wide brush in that arena too, but idiots aren't hard to pick out and don't represent the majority. Their comments just stick longer because they hurt.

I am not getting into that any further. I know what you are prodding for. Its just sad that when people make a statement about their lifestyle and what they believe and everyone is expected to accept it and move on. But if someone disagrees with that belief and lifestyle then they are expected to keep their mouth shut and let it go or they are hating and disrespecting someone....That is the problem with this country and why it has gone downhill. We have become to "accepting" of what is and always has been wrong on so many levels.

So you interpret scripture one way and that makes it absolute? It somehow makes it less wrong to bully, kill, etc. gays because it happens to others as well? I care about the bullying of others based on gender, race, mental capacity and any others, but as it relates to this topic, it's about being gay. And straight people are the only ones who want to get married for love?

When did you decide you liked girls better than boys?

And I'm not gonna be the one to lock it. First of all, you'll all throw a fit because you think I lock it with the last word. Second of all, it's important to me and I find some of the opinions and arguments especially heinous. Interpretation of scripture and the way it's always been is no reason to continue on with the status quo.

And I'm not tellling you to keep your mouth shut. I'm trying to prod you into realizing that being gay isn't a choice. Should I keep my mouth shut when I see a bunch of stuff I find ill-informed at best and flat out homophobic at worst being said?

Always seems like when you run out of things to say, you just blame the other side for not letting you have an opinion.
