Knowing that Tulane has lost the LSU series for the next six years, and knowing that the only openings we have on our schedule is the I-AA spot, would you be willing to do a two game road series with Tulane for at least the next two years instead of playing a I-AA team?

The only downside I see is that it would prevent us from having the seven home games that Byrne wants, and I want as well. But at the same time, it is New Orleans, it would be no worse than a neutral site game for us, the result of the game would likely be the same as a I-AA opponent, and they are pretty bad, and things aren't really looking up for them. We would still likely be able to get players into the game and get experience. In 2011, we would get to go to Memphis AND New Orleans in the same year as well.

I buy. Maybe there is a solution where we could buy out UAB and get a I-AA opponent in their place, and then play Tulane in the I-AA opponents place.

1. Not every MSU alum/fan is close to New Orleans. Speaking selfishly, Starkville is about 4 hours closer to me than NOLA is. I can travel to Knoxville or Lexington in the same amount of time it would take me to get to NOLA.

2. Home game = much-needed revenue. Playing at the dome more often than necessary is only subsidizing Tulane's football program.

A two game ROAD series with Tulane??? That would be far worse than any contract Templeton ever got us into. Please tell me you were just drunk when you posted this.

ok, say they pay us say $750,000 , doubt they could afford more, (for one year)
Vs us putting 52,000 in our stadium x say $35 = $1,820,000. and us paying them $750,000.
I know these numbers are off, but as you can see we can't afford to do something like this.

If they are desperate for money, why not just let us cover their travel expenses in lieu of a gate payout and have them just come to Starkville? My suggestion sounds stupid? No more than us going to N.O. for 2 years and essentially giving them all of the home gate profit having us as a visiting team.

No matter the destination, MSU should never play anywhere without a return game at home.

I would much rather play twice in New Orleans than play a Div 1AA team at home. It's a great trip, and we usually have more fans that Tulane anyway.

You forget that in 2011 MSU will have only five home games under that scenario.

Do you have some rule that says you can't go to New Orleans unless State is playing football there? It's open year round, you can go anytime you want.

I think we should go back to 11 games, and make a rule where division 1A teams cannot play 1AA teams (if the numbers work out). I believe that is step one to having an 8 game playoff system, the 12th game has just screwed things up. However, since you are allowed to play a 1AA team each year and have it count, you absolutely do it without thinking twice about it. It's cheaper, it's at home, it will make money, and it's a win.

Buy on playing there. They should become a quasi-permanent home & home opponent like Memphis was in the mid 90's to early 00's.

Ideally, I would like to see our annual OOC schedule be:
1 1-AA team, preferably early or late in the season.
1 mid-major (WAC, CUSA) home & home
1 BCS conference team (not necessarily a good team) home & home
1 low level (Sun Belt) buy-game, 2-for-1, or low level.
Get at least 2 of these at home every year. Having at least two at home every year is more important than getting all 4 at home in one year. Some deviations from this could definitely be welcome (playing a service academy or ND would be interesting).
