State has a better chance of a SEC Basketball championship than Ole Miss winning the SEC West in football.

And you pieces of ****, don't turn this into an Eggbowl.com type thread. I know it will eventually get there because some of you just can't refrain from being complete idiots but let's reach for the stars.

as long as Varnardo comes back. Getting UT and UK in Starkville could be the difference for us. And yes, I know Ole Miss has a very favorable football schedule as well.

That's not to say UM won't be a top-15 team again next year in football (they will), but they will not win the SEC West.

We are the clear front runners for the west and overall in the SEC next year. It is widely known now. That's why theres been about 2 Rebel posts over here all day long about the Sidney situation.

Edited to say: If Kentucky signs John Wall, I believe that they might be the front runner for the SEC with us. Maybe the leader. Wall is THAT good. But basically Sidney is in the same category.

Ole Miss has a great shot to win the West in football (solely because of Jacarious Lucas), but I expect the SEC East to even out in basketball, and I don't see us not winning the West.

Sidney is a good player, but Wall is in a league all by himself.

Wall is very talented. Only from my judging of scout.com videos, it looks like Sidney is the best post player in the 2009 class. I know they have him as the number 2 PF, but I think Sidney and Cousins are the two best post players in this class. I think Sidney is the better prospect because he can shoot the three with regularity. I haven't seen that game from Cousins. I'm hoping that Wall doesn't go to Kentucky, but I'm afraid he will.

Also,

John Wall visited North Carolina Central University today. It is a historically black college in North Carolina. He was quoted as saying he wanted to see what a historically black college had to offer for him. Wouldn't that be a shock? Won't happen though.

I think both are very difficult, just because of the competitiveness of the league. I think, honestly, each one is probably at best a 50-50 shot. Mississippi winning the West in football, probably a little less than that. So I say buy, but only because I think it's going to be tough for either one.

reason being is that the sec is state's to lose. also, we're so effin deep. we have 5 backups that would be better than half of the sec starting 5.

*all based on jv coming back, of course.

Some guy he has ties to is the coach there now. I think Wall ends up at UK and will get them 6-7 more wins. Guards have a much easier time transitioning from HS than post players do. Guys like Cousins and Sidney have never had to contend against the physical play in the post they will face next year.

Because Ole Miss always seems to have trouble with Bama in football, and they are probably going to be the favorite with people shooting for them, this making it more difficult for them to win.

I know you could apply the "gunning for the top team" arguement to us in basketball to, but IF Varnado comes back, we are going to have a lot of depth and versatility. We also have some seniors like Barry and hopefully Varnado who can provide veteran leadership. We have a legit point guard, which I think is very important in any basketball league. We have an energy guy in Phil Turner. Assuming Varnado comes back, we have probably the best defensive player and certain shot blocker in the SEC, and his job just got a lot easier if he comes back.

As far as the comparison for this, I just don't think the SEC has as many basketball teams that have the combination of talent, depth, versatility, and experience as our team will have next year. As far as football, Ole Miss will have a good team, but I just don't think there is as big a gap between them and the other teams in the division.

at living up to high expectations in football as we are. Don't get me wrong, they will be damn good but they did loose some studs and they won't be slipping up on anyone this year.

that every single gamble or trick play UM tried last year worked. Part of that was due to good execution, but similar to the way our team won all the close games in 2007, you just can't keep that kind of streak up over the long-term.

We were 2-4 in games decided by 7 or less last year. We actually had more breaks go against us last year than for us. 7 of our 9 wins were by double digits, and they were games we would've won without the gambles or trick plays working.

I always say you should expect to go about .500 in the games decided by 7 or less. If the bounces had evened out, we'd have been 10-3 instead of 9-4. In 2007, you were 4-0 in games decided by 7 points or less, and you only had 4 wins by double digits.

I'm with you though that it should be easier for you to win the SEC in basketball than us to win the West in football, though it's close. Reason I say that is that I see 2 teams that should give us a good run in the West (Bama and LSU), and I see two that should give you a really good run in basketball (UT and UK). I give your basketball the nod though because you get both those teams at home, and they have to play each other twice, while you only have to play them once.

I'd say the odds are against them. This isnt the first good team theyve ever had. Lets get to atlanta first before you annoint yourselves. And we just won the SEC this year without sidney. Thats actually an easy question. OM's cursed like the Cubs.
