Hope you know that you do have the option of ignoring those soccer posts. No one is twisting your arm to read them. Just saying!

It appears you take pride in making sure you present yourself as a stuck in the past stick in the mud dinosaur every night with your postings. World's changing old man, and soccer takes a hell of a lot more athleticism than baseball and will continue to become more popular.

and will continue to become more popular.
People have been saying this for at least the last 10 years, and little to nothing has changed in the US. I'm not a soccer hater, but it will never compete in popularity with baseball, basketball, and football.

But yes, it does.
I'm not saying it doesn't take athleticism to play soccer, but take a baseball player and let him play soccer and put a soccer player on the baseball diamond and see who's the best "athlete". For example a-rod and david beckham....my money's on a-rod on the soccer field. Beckham doesn't make a catch or come close to hitting a baseball....just sayin

Not the let's put another sport star in this particular sport argument again. It's hypothetical and you can't prove if Beckham or A-Rod would have been better if they played each other's sport because they did not play the other sport at a higher level growing up.

I wonder how that comparison of Prince Fielder and Beckham would come out? There are no Prince Fielders or Bob Wickmans in soccer. Now don't get me wrong, baseball is my favorite professional sport and I'm not a huge soccer fan. It just had to be defended from ignorant statements such as the original poster's.

I base my observation that soccer requires greater athleticism than baseball on my own experience and just watching the pros do it. After sitting on my couch all month which sport is going to be easiest for me to go out and play this afternoon? I could get through a baseball game pretty easily. I might not catch or hit that well, but those are skill issues. Just like my passes and shots in soccer would be off. But I have a seriously difficult time getting through a soccer match if I haven't been exercising recently. Just being able to run for such a long period of time and still be able to sprint when the occasion arises. It's not an issue of one sport being better than the other. Compare baseball to football. There is one big reason why you can only play one football game a week, but you can play several baseball games in a week. It doesn't mean that football is better than baseball. And soccer requiring greater athleticism doesn't make it better than baseball.

I take a look at soccer players at the end of a match and compare them to baseball players at the end of a game, it seems to correlate with my own personal experience.

Hypothetical athlete substitutions don't tell you anything. This isn't "Shaq Vs." These guys don't have the skill sets to play each others' sport. Just make them run laps until the first one passes out.

I'm pretty sure John Kruk would not have made a great soccer player. Or David Wells. Or CC Sabathia. Or Cecil & his son Fielder. Or.. well, you get the point.

Soccer is definitely gaining popularity over the last 10 years. Look at TV ratings, attendance at MLS games, etc. There is increased interest out there - ESPN has begun showing more and more of it on TV. It will always be no better than 4th, but that doesn't mean that it can't continue to gain popularity. Lots of people (me included) like all sports - adding one to the list doesn't mean I'll quit watching another one.

I don't care much about soccer either way, but how hard is it to just say "soccer post?" Instead of *****Djibouti vs. Iceland Official Post*****
