Poster's note-This may be the first thread I have ever started which will probably get locked. I just wanted everyone to know how I feel though.

Buy or sell all the posters decrying the JSU game for whatever reason stated are just a bunch of racists who don't want 5-10K blacks on campus.

TOTAL BUY.

I can't believe some of the comments regarding potential game day behavior. I'm sure most of said comments wouldn't happen if it weren't for the cloak of message board anonymity.

from the board, I know at least a couple who agree with me. It's a good idea, I just think it's dumb to replace that game. The "but we now have a home game in 2012" doesn't hold water. Hell, you could have just scheduled Jackson State in 2012.

But the idea in general is a good one. I just don't get replacing that game.

In particular those commenting about the atmosphere on gameday are most definantly showing some racist tendencies.

What other reason would they have for not wanting to play Jsu? Seriously, I've heard some argue that the swac is a terrible D1AA conf., which I agree with, but do you get bonus points for playing a good D1AA team? D1AA is D1AA no matter how good the team is, so you might as well play the bottom of the barrel D1AA teams to avoid anymore Maine games, if that's possible. The game will benefit us and Jsu, so I don't see what's not to like about this game. Matter of fact, this will be the only D1AA game I have ever looked forward too.

I-AA game = EASY WIN. We currently don't have a I-AA game scheduled for 2009. Yeah, we could have moved the Jackson State game to 2012, but then we'd have a I-AA game in 2012, but not in 2009. By moving the LA Tech game to 2012, we can have a I-AA game in BOTH 2009 and 2012.

For the record, I don't think you're being racist at all in what you've posted. You've never said you weren't in favor of playing Jackson State, just questioned swapping the LA Tech game for it.

....I'm sure Byrne would've loved to replace Houston, but it was probably harder to get out of financially. Probably didn't want to replace Ga Tech, and probably didn't want to replace MTSU and have 8 home games that would throw the whole thing off, like pat posted earlier.

I'm wondering why Jackson State has not played a D1 opponent in six years and why HBC's don't play other D1 programs (I didn't look this part up, but I can't remember any D1 v. HBC games other than the aforementioned USM v. JSU game of '02). Having JSU fans on campus will not be any kind of problem; I can't believe people would even suggest this given the fact that you invite LSU fans to your campus every other year.

game than La Tech. I agree with that. The home game thing is what didn't make total sense to me. I thought you were trying to say it was just because of the 7 home games thing. This both gets you an easier game next year, plus helps the 7 home game thing.

Eternal humility...

Also, when some obscure OL gets on Gene's Page in 2025 talking about his knowledge, we can simply reply "14-22, STFU."

" Having JSU fans on campus will not be any kind of problem; I can't believe people would even suggest this given the fact that you invite LSU fans to your campus every other year"

Bingo. LSU fans are about the worst college football fans I can conjure up in my mind, yet many have gone to games down there and we have them here every other year. There's no way JSU fans can be worse than LSU fans, and I seriously doubt they could possibly be as bad. I firmly believe the JSU contingent that travels to Starkville will be like any other - a few idiots in the bunch, but most just wanting to see a good game, pull for their team, and have a good time.

Grambling opened at Nevada. Alcorn played Troy and New Mexico State. Alabama A&M played Louisiana Monroe. Alabama State played UAB.

That was all this year. So it happens.

Back in '94, I went to the JSU-Alcorn game at Memorial Stadium (Air McNair's last game) with 4 friends as white as me. There were about 62,000 black people and about 500 white people. I had a blast. I was not mugged, raped, assaulted, shot, carjacked, beaten or murdered. It's just pure redneck ignorance that makes people afraid to dare associate themselves with people who aren't just like them. So, the dildos on here who are trying to formulate lame excuses as to why we shouldn't play JSU (I mean, really, basedog - how does it make us a better team? Are you freaking kidding me? That's the best you could come up with?) are just hiding behind the real reason they don't want it to happen.

The only possible reason not to play JSU would be if it were in Jackson. Since the game will be in Starkville, there is so much upside. And for all those who think playing them is a bad idea, I've got one thing to say to you

the SWAC has recently cut their conference schedule back from 8 games to 7 games for the purpose of allowing their schools to schedule these buy games. I think we'll be seeing a lot more I-A schools hosting SWAC schools in the future. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see several SEC-SWAC games in the future.

I think it is a great idea. Mississippi money staying in Mississippi.

& as far as the JSU fan base goes, I know a good handful of season ticket holders & former players (from a long time ago), & all they want to do is follow the team that they love. Granted, their tailgating food is a little different, but they enjoy their football the same as we do.

I am excited as crap about the Sonic Boom of the South showing up & showing out in Starkville.

Since I live w/in earshot if Veterans Memorial Stadium, the only problem I have seen is that the facilities, & surrounding grounds / tailgating areas, never get cleaned (trash pick-up) until Sunday evening at the earliest.

To my knowledge, since if have lived over here, there has never been a problem related to a JSU event at the Vet.

I am glad we got a good cheap game. I would say good cheap win, but I don't think that is a given, since we don't seem to figure anything out until after the first 4 games.

State's football players are 90% black and has a majority black coaching staff . State has one of the largest AA enrollments of the big 3. If these people were truly racist, they would not follow the football team/school at all much less care enough to post on a message board about it.

but I think most are just trying to be funny. Let me rephrase that...I hope that the posters who are spouting some the ignorance in the various locked threads on this subject are just immature and that they do not truly have that mindset. I think its going to be a great time. Further if we are going to play an away game against MTSU or La Tech why not instead play a game in Jackson and have JSU as our opponent?

The JSU fans that will be coming to Starkville are middle to upper working class. They will spend 80 bucks on gas; they will spend 3 times more for tickets. They will have to drive 145 miles.

We will not get the low life that shows up at JSU home games. Those low lives will still be in Jackson. It is not like walking across the street to the game or paying 15 bucks for tickets.

It will take a few bucks and a will to get to the game.

I am for the game. This game does not hurt our recruiting. This game will pad our attendance numbers. This game will put money into the pockets for another in state school. This game will help us get bowl eligible.

There is nothing but up side to playing this game.

I know some of those posters personally and they're some of the biggest racists I've ever met. I even suggested playing JSU one time and the guy just started trembling and cursing he was so angry at the thought. He truly hates black people, and I mean even more than Croomp.

I'm looking forward to some of the tailgating food J-State fans will cook. I work close to Memorial Stadium, and the J-State fans will start rolling in on Thursday for big games like Southern or Alcorn. MAN! It smells good out there in the North Parking Lot long about Friday evening.

Rick Comegys is a good coach. He manages to get a few Division 1-a transfers a year, so they normally have good talent. However, this year the team hasn't meshed very well. It sorta reminds me of Jackie Sherrill relying so much on JUCO's, in that it's a crapshoot in terms of who pans out, as well as team chemistry.

Scheduling J-State is a win-win-win for everybody.

"Ok then, but when you get hit in the head with a chicken bone or watermelon rind, don't come crying to me."

From the episode when the Jefferson's moved in next door.

Don't worry boys that are scared of black people.

Whitey will still have them out numbered.

USM still has a few of these type fans left as well. Ole Miss has more. Huge PR win for MSU. USM is playing Alcorn next year as well. Halftime show is worth the ticket cost.

Well, I have been to a JSU tailgate, & one of my employees always invites me at least twice a year to a birthday cookout, & another event......boiled turkey necks don't LOOK very good, but damn, once you get past the appearance, they are very tasty. I guess this is like my dad enjoying the occasional pickled pigs foot.
