I know it would be tough, but lets suppose that you could contribute money over the next two weeks earmarked for a buyout at the end of the year.

Talked with influential Bulldog Club member last week and supposedly more than one person has come forward and said they were willing to fund the whole buyout at seasons end. He wouldn't give me any names but just said that the money thing is no longer part of the equation. This is not a person who has ever told me something that wasn't true along these lines.</p>

I'm not shelling out hard earned money for a buyout.
But if President Obama gives me money (I make less than 250k) then I'll throw that non-hard earned money at a buyout.

someone that makes better than 20 times what I make. Donating money for facilities etc...I could do, but to give money to MSU that would then be given directly to a fat incompetent slob that makes $1,700,000 per year just rubs me the wrong way. I know it would be for the good of MSU, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

How would it be if I threw in a little free landscaping at Croom's house to cover my part?

I appreciate the honesty, but I thought that there would be more people willing to put up at least $1000 providing a stronger collective buying power. Maybe LT had reason for not courting Joe Alumnus.

I'd rather deduct the cash from LTs pension, but I'd pay just to move on now before we fall further behind the curve in the SEC.

I chose $100 because...

a. I am completely discouraged as a fan right now.
b. I have wasted alot of money on MSU lately and received very little in return.
c. Like someone said above, I have a hard time contributing money for someone to sit at home when they have already been improperly rewarded.

I am very much committed to having our coaches receive lucrative packages, but they need to be more performance based. I say that we agree to pay this guys $200,000 per win or maybe $1,000,000 base salary and $100,000 per win with additional adds for bowls, etc.

I still view a contract as a mutually beneficial agreement

& I think coaches are given to much in their contracts, I don't necessarily disagree w/ the big numbers (see Saben & what he has done for Alabama), but the coaches are being given too much of a win / win scenario on their side of the contract. It is not that the university should be able to take money from the coach, but specifically in Crooms case, & especially if he under-performs next year (which there is nothing to indicate he won't), I simply feel we should owe him nothing based on un-realized revenue. Any value that Croom brought to the table in additional giving, apparel sales, trinket sales, are gone now b/c the product that is MSU football has little or no value.

Back to the original point, 30,000 to 40,000 happy Joe Alumnus gladly let go of $ 100.00 bills for a good product multiple times a season, even if the product has a loosing record, but shows promise by being competitive, & the coach is taking ownership of the season / situation.

If enough MSU fans give 100 bucks- and let's say that 40,000 give 100 bucks, that's 4 million dollars.

So, if 10,000 give 100 bucks, that's a million and then you throw in the cigar boys, and that should be enough to buy out Croom. We also could raise ticket prices and probably get the money as well.

....that a lot of us just can't throw down that much coin on a whim, no matter how much we are in favor of the action occurring. Have to pay for real-life first.

I'd be happy to contribute, but I know that my meager contribution to the pile would only be a drop in the bucket, though a very earnestly given drop.

Tell him his new buyout: nothing. And Croom will have to buy a new golf cart on his way out of Starkville too.

I give enough to the BC. If they can't manage it wisely (ie- not give payraises and extensions to underperforming coaches), I'm not going to give them more money to bail them out. I won't stop giving, I just won't give extra.

but the thing to remember is that you aren't just funding Croom's buyout - whatever the figure actually is. You also have to have the money available to buyout any assistant coaches who have years remaining on their contracts.

Edit to add...
I don't bring that up to say we should keep Croom... only that fixing this trainwreck isn't as simple as paying off one coach.

He stated that a good estimate of what it would take to buy out The Walrus, his merry band of fools, and bring in a competent coach and staff would cost around 8-9 million. Not sure how significant that is. Thats just what he said.

of the ranges.....yep, that ought to do the trick.....

You guys see the point now of courting the masses for this type of thing? This is why it takes about 8-10 guys to pull the trigger instead of 3,456 fans.
