It's really nice. They usually go all ballistic on social media when they beat us or the Bears at anything. SMTTT....not..
Most Dawgs didn't post a thing. It just goes to show how irrelevant they really are.

We are downright horrible in the middle of the week. I don't think any of us expected to win. If we beat Jackson State in the middle of the week, we probably would have celebrated. m

Your last few sentences did make me laugh.

Being a displaced USM fan in grad school in Oxford, I loved it.

It was a combination of things: Basically everything just clicked that night.

-We started five freshmen that night in the lineup with Brunty and Day injured. We only started two last night since those guys are back. The freshmen are more talented and are better players, but lack consistency and aren't as good defensively. Of course, that means when they are on, they looked REALLY good. Such was the case that night. Also, Connor Barron was healthy.
-Mason Robbins was hitting like .480 at the time.
-Blake Brown, the cleanup who got a couple of backwards K's last night (including one with first and third and one out) and hit into a double play with runners on the corners and one out, was on a tear. He's a big kid, so when he is hitting the ball well, he launches it. He hit a three run shot and an RBI triple off the top of the wall that night. He's a hole in the lineup right now.
-Boomer walked a **** ton of people like always but waited to do it until there were two out. Having been another abused pitcher in high school, he wears down as the year goes on. I don't know if he needs surgery or his arm is just dead.

We're going to be a good team in 2013 and potentially great in 2014. That was one of those nights where you saw it. Last night...not so much.

there is definitely some good young talent on the USM roster. What is the overall outlook and expectations the Buzzard fan base has of the football team in year 1 of EJ?

I'd be happy with 7 or 8 wins. We lost a lot of experience last year, including a very good LT and QB. I think you'll see the team relying heavily on the defense this year which shouldn't be too bad of a unit.

If we don't host a regional in 2014 I will be very pissed at Berry

I wanted to see Barron last night. Didn't realize he was hurt until I saw him not in the lineup and asked. Shame.

Losing your head coach and 4 year starter (I think) at QB, especially knowing that you guys play Nebraska and Boise State (although they are rebuilding this year)...........but then I looked at this schedule

http://southernmiss.rivals.com/schedule.asp

....and I agree. I see a definite loss at Nebraska, maybe Boise, and of course UAB, but the rest are quite winnable. Even in a down year.

Yea, we should be able to get bowl eligible about as easy as you can.

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm at the end there ("we should be able to get bowl eligible about as easy as you can"), but you tell me who has the easier road to bowl eligibility. Toughest of the two?

Bama or Nebraska? Bama
LSU or Boise? LSU
Arkansas or Louisville? Arkansas
Auburn or Who? Auburn

I don't even know who to say your 4th toughest opponent is, because after Louisville it's like choosing the skinniest kid at fat camp. The only team on our schedule that I know for a fact wouldn't beat it's closest comparable from your schedule is Jackson State. Not trying to argue with you, just stating the facts. I was kidding about UAB of course, but i could see you guys winning 8 games with that schedule. I think EJ will be a good one for you.

Toughest of the two?

JSU or WKU? WKU.
South Alabama or Memphis? Toss up?
Troy or UAB? Toss up?
Middle Tenn or Rice? Middle Tenn?
Ole Miss or UTEP? Ole Miss
Kentucky or SMU? Kentucky
Tennessee or Marshall? Tennessee
A&M or ECU? A&M
Auburn or Central Florida? Auburn

So we could probably agree pretty quickly that you don't want to go down the schedule road. Once again, your schedule is great for a bowl streak and I'm not saying it's a bad thing for you guys...just saying it's not a murderers row. Ours Is much easier than in recent years, but easy? Not even close.

Kentucky, Tennessee, OM, and Auburn are all going to be garbage. You should have an easy time taking at least 3 of those. And your 4 OOC games are easy wins. You won't have much trouble getting 6 wins. That's what I was alluding to.

If you think a team that has had 2 or 3 top 10 classes in a row, a National Championship two years ago, and a Bowl Game last year is going to be garbage......then you should have no trouble seeing why everybody makes fun of your schedule and gives USM no credibility for winning a majority of games on that schedule. Fill in the blank..... If Auburn is garbage, then USM is ______________. The poop inside the diaper that is in the garbage? Just sayin.

I agree that OM and UK suck, but they still likely beat the comparable from the USM schedule.

teams may not have the best coaching staffs in the world, but they definitely have a great deal of talent. I don't think I would consider them "garbage."
