Being a displaced USM fan in grad school in Oxford, I loved it.
It was a combination of things: Basically everything just clicked that night.
-We started five freshmen that night in the lineup with Brunty and Day injured. We only started two last night since those guys are back. The freshmen are more talented and are better players, but lack consistency and aren't as good defensively. Of course, that means when they are on, they looked REALLY good. Such was the case that night. Also, Connor Barron was healthy.
-Mason Robbins was hitting like .480 at the time.
-Blake Brown, the cleanup who got a couple of backwards K's last night (including one with first and third and one out) and hit into a double play with runners on the corners and one out, was on a tear. He's a big kid, so when he is hitting the ball well, he launches it. He hit a three run shot and an RBI triple off the top of the wall that night. He's a hole in the lineup right now.
-Boomer walked a **** ton of people like always but waited to do it until there were two out. Having been another abused pitcher in high school, he wears down as the year goes on. I don't know if he needs surgery or his arm is just dead.
We're going to be a good team in 2013 and potentially great in 2014. That was one of those nights where you saw it. Last night...not so much.
