Some guys that we are looking at- allegedly- for baseball for next year.

Scott Votaw- P/SS/3B/OF Lawrence County High School
Cody Brewer- P-Perry Central
Nick Johnson-P- Ridgeland
Cody Livingston-P- Northwest Rankin
Austin Knight-C- Sumrall
Scottie Peavey- ATH- Brookhaven HS
Darren Farmer- C/2B-Meridian CC- Gene denies this, and I have only heard this from one other source, so there's a good chance this one is not true.
Brandon Woodruff- 1B/OF Wheeler
Conner Barron- 2B/SS-Sumrall
Jonathan Holder- 3B/1B- Gulport
Lawrence Bourgeois- OF- St. Stanislaus
Jacob Lindgren- P-St. Stanislaus- was a top prospect at one time, but hurt his arm in the playoffs this year, and I'm not sure that we wil offer him now.
Donnie Tabb- OF/P- East Central CC- Was a verbal commit to MSU in Cohen's first full class, but did not qualify academically, was drafted by the Mets.
Cody Shrewsberry- INF- Tupelo- I think this one is a little sketchy.
Dylan Earnest- P- ICC- placed there by MSU.

The above list is a very rough sketch. One thing I do know is that the MSU coaching staff will be going to Oklahoma to watch the Sun Belt Classic and the State Games in Meridian to scout players this month. If you want to see some potential prospects, and are interested in the Trail of Tears, and have no life the Sun Belt Classic is a good place to go. I say that, but my white *** was at the Crossroads High School All-Star Game on Sat. Baseball is my Battlestar Gallactica. (sigh) The State Games are also good, but most of the states top guys are going to Oklahoma. You may find some sleepers in Meridian emerge- such as Taylor Stark last year.

The abridged MSU lineup as of now which will change like the wind between now and Feb.

Closer- Daryl Norris- just a hunch.

Fri- Routt (Please God let him be healthy)
Sat.- Stratton
Sun.- Devin Jones

C- Wes Thigpen/Brett Bozeman
1B- Wes Rea
2B- Adam Frazier/mystery JUCO recruit
3B- Jarrod Parks
SS- Jonathan Ogden (Sorry)
RF- Nick Vickerson
CF- Jaron (YEA!)
LF- Brent Brownlee- assuming he is healthy of course
DH- Cody Freeman

Excuse me for not buying the Daryl Norris hype yet. I did see a video of him that was pretty impressive- especially his slider. I'm just leery that a guy that's a two pitch guy can hold down a SEC weekend spot. I do think that he will be very good by the time he leaves MSU.

Also, I am VERY excited about Trevor Fitts. I do think that he can win a SEC spot as a freshman, but we'll see. I just hope he makes it here and that his coach doesn't tear his arm up. I think he is legit. He won the Alabama 6A pitcher of the year last year as a junior- including over Daryl Norris.

disappoint at the plate last year- I think only 3 home runs. He has to do better than that for sure. His .301 average was OK, and the minimum I would expect from him.

But as a catcher, here's a scary stat- he threw out a grand total of 2 base runners. Teams were successful stealing against him 93% of the time. You don't have to be Bill James to know that that is horrible. And yes, I know that stolen bases are partially on the pitcher, but still. I think throwing out 30% of baserunners is considered good in MLB, or at least that is what I have heard. He actually had more stolen bases- 5- than runners thrown out.

That said, I do think he is one of the better hitters that we have at this time, and he will be a senior. I do think that we need to find a place for him in the lineup somewhere at least initially- and that may not be at catcher, and granted, that may not be at DH either.

about Cox, and I have heard that he wants to go to MSU. He had a great year for Amory- I think he was 14-0 at one point in time.

Good catch!
