Can someone please educate me on why there are so many teams with BYE games?

Can someone please educate me on why there are so many teams with BYE games?

Because there are only 24 teams in each level (A and AA) in Division 1 and 4.... So the top 4 seeds in each level(8 teams overall) got a bye in the first round

Byes in 1A and 4A. It rids us of those 8 weakest teams in each class.

But fans still can piss and moan about the SOS system that they begged for.

I thought 1A and 4A should have went to 32 total teams and four rounds playing their title games the week before 2A and 3A.

With the exception of 1 team we got the top 48 teams,
the #47 team IS IN, the #48 isn't, blame the split
conference rule for the 1 that isn't not this new maxprep thing . We got what we wanted, all should be fine. Lets play ball...

Instead of #48 we got # 74 (of 77) Maybe finally time to fix that.
