With all the great things that have happened because of our AD over the past several years, I hope people now realize how far LT held us back. Unbelievable.

I'm no LT fan but in the spirit of fairness

He didn't have near the resources. With that said he pretty much sucked.

Agreed

as far as the $ flow, the game is now quite a bit different. TV $.

It was very hard enduring the post Kang era.

I'm not sure LT would have made a change when Byrne did, but hey, it was a great, timely decision.

Life is getting better.

One of my problems

with LT and lack of funds is he didn't seem to do anything about it. He just relied on the cigar boys. Byrne and Strickland do a great job of marketing the program and getting money (outside of SEC money)

I personally suggested to him that we start up a ticket exchange back when basketball seats were hard to come by, with proceeds going to the school and sellers only receiving BC credit. He hand-waived it off, basing his refusal on some somewhat-related project UM had already tried, and saying it would be too costly.
My post-Bama interview with him back in '96 didn't leave me thinking he was a penny-pincher, but all my other first-hand encounters indicated a lack of initiative on anything remotely ground-breaking, including fundraising tactics.

Well you can look at

how the two (Byrne/Strickland) use various forms of mass communication to relate to the fan base. ****, you'd be lucky to get a "hey, how's it going from LT, barring your father was a millionaire.

Im sorry ms templeton, but your husband sucked.

Sounds like so much Bull ****, since BS was not understood.

LT was not a people person, as I can tell, but he did some good things.

I did not say he was everything to everyone.

No doubt LT was dealing with very limited financial resources. Part of that was his own doing.

That was kind of the point

Einstein, that he wasn't a people person. When you're in the position of raising money by asking strangers, it would probably be a good thing that you were likable. Again, I hate to disparage your husband, but facts are facts.

I did not say he was everything to everyone.

You don't have to be a people person to get in touch with somebody after they tell you they want to make a 7 figure donation. If somebody comes to you unsolicited and says they want to make a donation like that, and talking to people is that hard for you, have your 17ing assistant call them back. Didn't we name our football stadium for like $25M? You're telling me more than 1/25th of that doesn't even merit a 17ing phone call?

And what do sky boxes go for? Like a minimum of $25k a year? Over two seasons, you can't make time to stop by each skybox at least once to tell them you appreciate their support?

17 LT. If he did some good things, he more than negated that by not doing things that were basic competencies for an AD.
