Jim Ellis implied it was almost a done deal on his radio show. Said we needed a waiver from the SEC since they aren't a P5 team. I didn't catch whether it would be a two yr deal.
I'm surprised if he said this. Everyone's been pretty tight-lipped about the other recent scheduling announcements, and you kind of expect this to come straight from the horse's mouth.
Sounds good to me. I wouldn't think the waiver would be any problem at all to get. They're not a P5 team, but they are a high profile team, similar to Boise.
I'd be worried the conference would deny the request to avoid setting a precedent. According to the article Maroon Eagle linked, the SEC has already ruled that BYU won't get a waiver.
I hadn't seen that article when I posted. However, that just says the SEC decided BYU doesn't count as a Power 5 opponent for purposes of the rule. We may still be able to get a waiver based on the limited time between the rule being passed and our good faith efforts to comply with the rule (2018-2023 already scheduled). I doubt we'd go too far with discussions with BYU without at least an indication from the SEC office that we could get a waiver.
Do other schools tailgate at Provo? Like if I were going to go, and if I could find liquor ANYWHERE in the state, could I drink it at a tailgate? Or would I be shipped off to a combine somewhere in hills before nightfall?
No way should we play these holding, 17ers.....Never saw a team hold our players and be so obvious about about it....knowing it would not be called....
Thought we'd already set up games for the first two years with one of the Arizona schools (I get them confused, but probably the one that Byrne's at) and a Kansas school. Maybe those games are for '17 and '18?
